Apparently, all the girls are already engaged to some wealthy guy to climb the social ladder. This is their only chance to experience romance, even if it’s just pretend. They all feel like they’re trapped in a cage, unable to break free. That’s what I got from shows like Marimite, and this one seems to be pretty similar, except it doesn’t take itself so seriously.

Gags are the lifeblood of comedy. The gags in the 4koma work for me too.
I love comedy anime but btr was never all that funny to me, the animation gags always felt more like eye candy than well-delivered jokes. I really don't know why it didn't work for me considering I like music stuff and enjoyed Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu a lot which has similar social anxiety themes

from a more meta standpoint, referencing more niche groups risks alienating the viewers who aren't particularly into music or rock, and just tuned in for the cute girls

Bocchi is a straightforward, filler-free show. The story builds from ep1-11, and then hits a strong climax in ep12. It’s a well-directed series overall. Hence why Keiichiro Saito didn’t want to come back for S2. His work is done there.
Rock Modesty already feels like it's just repeating the same stuff in ep2 that we saw in ep1. I’d love it if they cut out all those filler NPC students. Could use some polishing and trimming the fat.

I love this genre of "I like American music" dialogue where they just namedrop "rock band modern". They do this a lot in the other rock yuri manga and it gets progressively sillier.

Hitori Bocchi didn't feel like someone who actually had social anxiety, just a shy girl. Bocchi the Rock showed how debilitating pink Bocchi's social anxiety is and the way it pervaded through all aspects of her life.
Thankfully she's not a green day fan too.
