Dont miss it, its happening
Vol.31
following this as a first time reader
surely it can't be that bad
it is
First time reader, I used to think that this was always a low brow manga and that it wasn't really worth anything beyond the fanservice, so I used to wonder why the fans were so pissed at the final arcs.
Now I get it
AIEEEEE
I did miss it. My brain was probably thinking just pretend it ended.
This is the exact point I realized this manga was not going to ever get better

There. I fixed E10
Megumi got a single split judge vote for le potential and moral victories, so technically speaking, Saiba just jobbed even harder than her.
megumi "potentials" her way into the elite 10
Promise me she's going to get a real win out of this. Not against some random mook in an intermediary arc but a serious saves-the-day win.
megumi being seat 10
so she got in by default and new member kept kicking her down, right?
Megumi won with the power of racial profiling
Edgelord daddy was already handled badly but El Hermano was the final nail in the coffin for this series.
I DON'T WANT TO SCALE THE WALL
DARK chefs and EL HERMANO really do feel like the ultimate shitpost/show that the author has completely given up on the writing

Team Jump: How did you come up with the idea for the Noir?
Tsukuda Sensei: Good question! In manga, it’s common to have, like, an underworld version of things. The whole “First I conquered the legit world, and now I’ll challenge the underworld!” type of thing. I thought long and hard about how the underworld would need a reason to join the plot, and actually, what happened was we all went to this super-expensive restaurant in a hotel. One of those places where it’s really hard to even get a reservation. We’re at this expensive place, and I’m just thinking about how I wouldn’t be here if not for Food Wars!. I was feeling really grateful to the series, and it dawned on me how there is a world of cooking that I just don’t know about. It was at night, and the night view was beautiful, and I started thinking about how there are probably places like this where only people like politicians and artists with money go. So I exaggerated that by including crazy dishes you can’t get anywhere else, dishes that were even illegal, and that’s how I arrived at the Noir.

What was your inspiration behind the creation of the last group of colorful combatants Soma faces in Food Wars!?
Tsukuda: In a shonen series, the final group of enemies is a major familiar trope for writers and readers. There is a popular older cooking manga called Chuuka Ichiban! In that series, there are many unbelievable chefs with superhuman powers. For instance, one character uses an ice-knife for his dishes, and if you touch it, it will give you frostbite. So I wanted to save that superhuman style of character for this important arc.
This had to have been the editor interfering right? Central arc was a decline in quality, but you could still tell there was a general outline of a narrative and character interactions.
It’s like they saw the reception turning sour, panicked, and quickly scrambled to add random shounen tropes they thought could keep them afloat.
I have to ask...what's the origin of the wall meme? Is it another thing from Kengan or somewhere else?
Tsukuda actually planned this from the beginning
He was the biggest Toriko fan and used the series as a Trojan Horse to get Toriko lite into jump
I think it's both. Shit like the Central arc just smashing everything in one go + the lingerie collab has to be the editor pushing shit. And then the poor Noir execution was probably Tsukuda going "I have a great idea" and the editor waving him off going "do whatever I don't care".
Was the lingerie stuff in the anime? Maybe it was from the anime production committee and not WSJ editors.
reliving the downfall of this series is depressing but at least it's fun with the reactions. judging by the reactions from last thread, it will be funny when soma gets dumpstered
I love Megumi so much. I’m glad she’s in the top 10
It always feels weird seeing Soma with red hair on colored art, he looks much more natural with black in uncolored panels desu.
Yes, it's from Kengan
So this is the power of the Niko style....
Megumi would beat that jobber known as Alice.
You don't understand; there are MORE nails coming.
Are we going to see Armadillo again at least?
The manga in question.
How the hell does Megumi get a seat on the E10 but Giganigga doesn't
Yes. Context: The final(?) boss of the manga has absolutely batshit insane borderline supernatural/magical abilities out of line with the setting and his mere existence caused a fresh new wave of powercreep.
The writer responded to the power ceiling being raised so much by deciding that characters(read: his pets) by merely observing that this final boss character existed, suddenly can exceed their limits and magically get massively stronger in a short time thanks to a nonsensical mountain climbing metaphor.
This doesn't end there though, because people who come in contact with THOSE characters in turn also get the magic buff. The process is referred to as "scaling the wall".
Damn, I didn't know I missed her. You're killing me, Anon.
So many fucking characters who could have been used for more. There were so many graduates introduced like these that could have been mentors for various characters in more restaurant experience arcs like the stagiaire. So many ways we could have built up to the council in school based arcs and fleshed them out before making them antagonists. But no, we had to immediately go full battle shonen tournament and put the main cast at the top of the school instantly.
AND IT'S STILL NOT OVER despite the Central arc absolutely reeking of axed and rushed final arc.
Megumi’s panties are plain but still somehow so cute.
The series turned to shit The moment they started acknowledging the disrobing as being a real, if supernatural thing that physically happens to people.
need mizuhara gf
ESTO ES EL FIN
SOUMA
I really don't feel any sympathy for white hair nor The Menu's chef. There's more to cooking than high class and wallowing in self pity about how rich you are.
Megumi will never, ever win anything.
It's funnier because it was in universe months between them meeting Azami at the school festival and the final battle at Rebun Island they had no business doing that whatsoever but I maintain the opinion that the Central Arc has good moments and genuinely good ideas just extremely poor execution. Definitely would love to more of the previous classes Alum tho I don't think they really appear again.
I think the gumbo was her last legit win.
Yeah, this is my first time reading it, there were moments in the arc I genuinely liked, the issue was just pacing, execution, and some stuff(what was Rindo afraid of?) just sort of petering off and being dropped. If the Central arc was the actual last arc and came after proper buildup, I think it could've been great.
Even after things started going downhill in the team shokugeki, there were still moments(until the chef left and the actual cooking vanished), Takumi vs Eizan was genuinely good. That should have been the standard of all of the Espada fights, and it's no coincidence that he was the one with by far the most screentime and built up animosity with the cast. Nene and Isshiki's stuff was good too, just could have used more buildup.
I think one thing was that the size of the cast got to be too much for the writer, which is fair, but I don't think offscreening half the regulars was the play to fix it.
Did this series do anything for its 10th anniversary?
konnichiwa dude was her last win apparently
it wasn't even a head to head contest, just her using the ratatouille jutsu on him
Grim.
I remember ice knife sashimi. Irony is that the guy was a nice dude who was doing it to punish himself so he was the one guy from the dark cooking society who wasn't a bad guy.
Yeah the MC made a makeshift heat-knife to get a similar advantage and similar backlash.
He used his mom's knife for it too. Just fucking punched holes into it. I was kind of offended he did that desu even though I see what kind of FEELS he was going for. Out of context though, it's a super intense duel.
There's unironically nothing wrong with dark chefs. It was just executed really poorly.
Pic at least has good reason for being an underground chef group because they deal in illegal ingredients and methods.
Yeah, even if the series wanted to avoid accidentally glorifying using drugs and other illegal ingredients, there are plenty of ways you could have evil chefs with an agenda without it being super fucking shit. Tsukuda just fucked up because he didn't think about execution at ALL.
Chuuka Ichiban for example just had the dark cooking society want to take over the world and get rich. They knew they could control the rich and powerful with the power of coom so they went out of their way to harness it. That's a very straightforward and usable approach.
And they already lived in a cooking centric society where certified chefs were gods and supernatural feats were expected.
hey OP, you should start the next volume dump with this webm right after the cover. lol
Queen of moral victories.
Everyone who read the manga remembers that the final arc is a trainwreck, but I actually forgot just how quickly it is that Shokugeki no Soma deteriorates.
Not even one volume. The story doesn't even get a single volume's worth of chapters past the Central arc before the rot starts becoming apparent. And we still haven't reached the absolute bottom yet.
the author being forced to make El Hermano Erina's actual Hermano just to kill the ship because of how much more sexual tension they had over Soma was the funniest fucking shit
Also Soma literally getting thrown into the bin
Fuck, I had forgotten that last part
Is it fair to say that the last good part of this series was the festival challenge with the (IIRC) tenth seat of the school?
What if the plot twist was that Asahi's food tasted shit but he drugged the judges?
Ryoga was the better El Hermano
I did not care for the Central arc, and I did not enjoy the last chapter. I will no longer be watching these threads. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. Is that still a thing?
that would have been better than what actually happens
curry recipe calls for 1 part canned tomatoes (100 cc), 1 part water, 2 parts coconut milk
tomatoes come in what I thought were small cans (500 cc)
can't reseal the cans
going to have to make like 2 liters of curry in one batch
This is what I get for buying bulk. Guess I'm having curry all week.
See you next week
Forgot pic.
Like people said earlier in this topic, there were some good parts of the team battle. Aldini vs Eizan, I also liked the finale with Erina making Soma's specialties even if it was a little cheesy
Have Jump darling privileges to take lengthy research breaks while consultant is on maternity
Squander it getting drunk at maid cafes and never watch a single food show or read a single real recipe to simply plagiarize in name of fiction
Come up with hermano
Just keep pretending Shokugeki no Soma Secondo doesn’t exist, it’s far better that way.
Just make tomato soup with the rest.
We never even see knaifu again. Nothing you love prevails after this point, nothing.
just make some pasta or soup with it
May be controversial but I consider Central's highs higher, even if it was worse overall. The Festival was plagued by the usual retarded expulsion threats but it was a nice solid arc. In a better world it would've made a great jumping-off point for expanding on the rest of the school, including the council members.
The expulsion wasn't a real threat desu
I was always more annoyed by Kuga's character, him constantly brushing off Soma was obnoxious especially once it was revealed that he was Tsukasa's little bitch
I wouldn't be trying recipes from a manga if I knew how. Sorry bros, it's non-stop curry from here.
tomato soup is the actual unironic easiest recipe in the world to make
saute some onions, throw them in a pot with tomatoes and chicken broth, let it sit, puree it. wa fucking la
I can’t believe the entire site got shut down to prevent us from seeing Dark Chefs.
Came back but worse
