Otr of the flame

dump is here

Should've chosen a better name than this, how do I pronounce this shit?

trip fag

kys

how do I pronounce this shit

Like odor with a T. I'm going to call him otter, though. The real challenge is pronouncing Fylgja.

New Hood Weeb manga just dropped

tohdor?

IIRC the Japanese reads as "Oteru" but I guess they wanted it sounding more "viking"

I pronounce it Oh-ter

Yes anon, that's exactly right. Good job.

Hood Weeb

Would they really be in to a viking manga?

second thread

hype or shitposting? considering the mangaplus comments are barely about a 1000 likes, I'm guessing it's just axe hype

i do not see any hope for kawaguchi as a mangaka, this was a much worse first chapter than red hood. back to the assistant mines with ye.

a Fylgja is a spirit from Scandinavia folklore

it really is pronounced "feel ya"

like otter but with a long o, and kinda trill the r. it's an authentic old norse name, taken from a minor character

he needs a writer or to get a job as a concept artist or something where he can just draw gorilla women and crab monsters without a care

English side doesn't mean shit. Japanese side is all that matters.

That's even worse news for Kawaguchi

I didn't read Ice-head Gill or Ginka and Glüna, so I have no opinion on this being "another" Norse-themed series. This opening felt a lot better than Red Hood did, and I'm hoping it's a sign Kawaguchi actually bothered to learn from his mistakes with Red Hood. Getting the pace and characterization right will be crucial. I like the art and the action (despite what some were saying, I was able to follow the action scenes fine). I like the buff lady. I like the potential for Otr and Fylgja's dynamic. The only part I didn't like was whatever the fuck Otr was wearing during the fight.

shota fire punch

Is my shitty little Fylgja sketch the first fanart for her? or did I miss anything?

otr sketch.jpg - 3000x3250, 3.77M

The only thing I see on twitter is this of the muscle mommy and no one else has posted anything here. So yeah, I think you're the first.

elaborate
what are the nips saying?

Ginka and Glüna

This was just wizard fantasy, but the character came from a snowy area, it wasn't explicitly nordic

did I miss anything?

Yeah, her flat little breasts

I don't like the art. It's too scratchy, it looks unfinished

Magical transform to fight an evil sorcerer, sexy cute clothes, a magical mascot.

You're reading a magical girl (male) series

I think he's got potential as a writer, he really does need an editor to steer him around though, a good editor would've put their foot down with most of the shit in Red Hood

Given where Red Hood was going and how we're already getting into "characters talking about the nature of legends and legendary heroes," he definitely has an interest in a Discworld/Princess Tutu-esque world of stories about stories. Not quite super meta, but just meta enough for the characters to be motivated by and want to take advantage of narrative themes.

It was the thing that actually intrigued me about Red Hood, cause I'm a sucker for such things, and hope he gets another shot at it here.

I'm really sad we're never gonna see werewolves like this anymore, their design is honestly the most unique thing i've ever seen, hoping that the author gets his second shot. Norse mythology is heavily based on prophecy and thus can very easily be a story about narratives

It looks really fucking cool.
No idea why the author ruined it the very next page.

problem is he needs a solid base to do that meta musing on top of.

Looks like he belly dances for old men

Anything to support his sister.

Reminds me of the Elden Ring version of the Moonlight Greatsword, only red

quad quads

damn, fuck me I guess

But I think that's why both Red Hood and Otr utilize such basic foundations. Fighting wolves in a small village. Vikings fighting winter monsters. The real problem was somewhere in between the foundations of archetypical stories and characters, and the more "heady" areas of meta musings. Not even in the execution really. Red Hood largely flailed around in two ways: the secondary werewolf enemies after the opening chapter which bogged down the pacing (amusingly, this is in-universe a problem too as indicated by the posted page) but then the "join the Guild training arc" nonsense. Hopefully Otr avoids both. It really needs to get a stronger base going. Red Hood felt like it would've done better to have the MCs have a few more one off, stand alone adventures to establish their dynamic better.

So far Otr only really has the MC, the sister, and fire loli. Given how things are set up, it looks like no one's going to immediately know he's the hero either, since they were all frozen and he passes out as soon as he wins. So it's hard to say exactly what dynamic will happen here, but he's got a pretty unique power, unlike the Red Hood MC, and the stakes seems far more desperate than in Red Hood either, so it's hard to imagine it shaking out in the same way, at least.

OHNONONONONO U19 CONFIRMED

The shield could be better (not there) but damn that outfit really ruins it. Simple bottom, nothing on top, and charred hands is great.

That's his new uniform. Otr will soon discover a way to keep the warriors warm without using fire.

4 unlucky 4s

it's over.

He's called "Oteru" in japanese.
So, either Oter or Oteru
