the shit pacing in these first episodes makes it take way longer for the characters to become even remotely likeable so unless you know it'll get better later you will hate every single one of them except maybe Impmon simply because he's fucking with everyone else

Other than 1-2 characters having more depth than the average digimon character, tamers is pretty unremarkable.
Frontier and Tamers are the weakest seasons in my opinion, they deviate too much from the digimon formula adding unnecessary plot points.

It’s great but not the best. Adventure is the perfect arc, there isn’t one single defect to it. Tamers is very good, but only people who want to feel “adult” would say it’s better.

Actually, Tamers is the best. Tamers gave the Digimon actual personalities and character arcs.

Lets be frank, the Digimon in adventure were interchangeable and barely emoted. They sure as shit didn't have an actual arc to their character, they're the same at the start as they are by final frame far and wide. It was always the digidestined who had to learn some mild lesson in order to use their digivice, or their crest, often with the digimon in question already exhibiting the right trait long before it happens. Biyomon was probably the worst offender of this, all she did was the exact same thing she's been doing since episode 1, and Sora treated it like some massive revelation.

On the flipside, we have actual character conflict with the digimon in Tamers. Renamon wonders if Rika's even worth bothering with, since she only wanted power from the very start, and when Ruki abandons her she almost decides to go with the Devas because of it. But she has an actual emotional moment and grows as a character, something that'll eventually carry on to her saving Impmon at the very end of the Digiworld portion. Guilmon has to actually grow to understand stuff outside of his simple mindset. Even Antylomon has to learn that humans aren't as messed up as she thought they were. Sure, MarinAngemon and Andromon got shafted in this regard, no argument there, but we still got Impmon's full on start to end of show arc, there was development, changes differences. And obviously this meant the humans also had a whole bunch of character development, but what's distinct is it made the digimon get to have their own, instead of just being kind of there when it happens.

Adventure just didn't give the actual selling point, the digimon, time to be themselves.

Anyway, while I agree with some points despite you severely downplaying the stronger personalities among the 01 Digimon and ignoring Gatomon's entire arc, none of that changes the fact that Adventure is the one getting sequels, spin-offs, and merch while Guilmon was DLC in Survive and Terriermon didn't appear at all. The G.E.M figure line didn't even give us Henry let alone the whole cast compared to Adventure. Because Adventure is the one people have the most nostalgia for and the one Bandai knows will make them the most profit. If Tamers was widely considered the best, that'd be the one they'd be milking.

You and others may consider it the best, and that's fine, but in general, Adventure is higher rated everywhere, therefore it's widely considered the best of the franchise. I find Frieren extremely overrated, but it's considered one of the best recent anime by the masses and my feelings won't change that.

What metric exactly are we using to determine which one is the highest rated here? Because it's no secret why any company would milk the first iteration of their franchise whether or not it is their most polished or well written one. Gundam has this in spades but it applies across a lot of anime properties.

I have no stake in the race btw. I like Adventure and Tamers but both offer different experiences so I don't really put them against each other.

Eh first Adventure 02 arc was 10x worse, just couldn’t get through it. The new characters have no pull or charisma tamers and digimon alike, the villain is unremarkable and the story revolving around a dictatorship is inherently depressing and boring when it should be invigorating and fun to pull you in. Had to drop it early on as a kid, just too difficult to get through.

With Digimon Tamers first arc yes the monster of the week, the humans were so whiny and rookie rank hell sucked but the digimon at least had good personalities. Also people don’t like Renamon because she’s a good character she’s just hot. the story had this cool ethereal and ghost like atmosphere to pull you in + Takato’s parents and their bakery were comfy af.

Adventure 01 obviously has the best introductory arc, but the main story while really good IDK I preferred Tamers. While yes Gatomon and that wizard guy are really good, myotis was just boring af whereas the pajeet hindu villains had cool designs were interesting in their motivations and morally grey (I was 11 back then used to shallow slop villains). Also because the introductory arc cockblocked digivolutions you get to see it all pop off in the main arc, it’s so satisfying. Digimon Adventure 01 also has this lull post skullgreymon where the MC is doing fuck all in the real world with his little sister, was a slog to get through. But all in all both are really good.

The D Reaper sucked though, trying too hard to make a kid’s series edgy and was just soo boring. The Masters arc in 01 easily better, maintained the spirit of wondrous fantasy adventure and whatnot unlike the wannabe NGE crap that was D Reaper but at the same time it was pretty generic monster of the week. The final villain came out of nowhere too.

01 is probably better overall, more well rounded and the Digi-Destined were a lot more likeable even if the digimon had pet-like personalities compared to the better characterised digimon in Tamers.

That's what I thought. It's hard for me to draw anything conclusive from sites like that when both series might only differ in .1% -.3% when compared even if Adventure 01 is always in the lead. Tamers is objectively better written than 01 and, obviously, 02.
The Digiworld of 01 was less of a chaotic world and more like whatever the writers needed it to be at that episode "oh the kids need to go underwater to leave the island, and it just so happens to be where the tags are haha", unlike Tamers which the bizarre nature of the Digiword was actually a hindrance to the protags.
Tamers finally had made Digimons into real characters, and not just an extension of their kids.

The series knows how to setup and payoff, and it gets better on rewatch.

Long-running franchises don't milk their best entries necessarily, they milk the ones that put them on the map. For most, including Digimon, that's their first one (though that's not always the case - think FF7, for example). It's nostalgia and branding, not quality, driving these decisions.

Adventure is easily the best iteration of the digital world, both in aesthetics and mechanics. It truly felt like a video game Wonderland that followed its own bizarre logic.

The problem with Adventure is that it just had too many main characters and not enough time to nicely develop all of them individually and have enough meaningful interactions between them to understand their dynamics with eachother, past the simple "they just get along". Sure, you could argue most of the children did get that, but their partner Digimons never did.

Also, MarinAngemon and Andromon (and Leomon to some extent) never got much time to shine but that's ok since they're just supporting characters, as their respective Tamers.

This is one complain I'll never understand. There are plenty of things to criticize about adventure but characterization is not one of them. All the kids get developed through their interactions with their partners and the other kids. It is nothing too deep but everybody ends up a well rounded character by the end. Despite its size, the cast is fairly well balanced and none of them fall to the sidelines the way most of the characters do in other seasons.
At the very least, "they just get along" is not how I'd describe their group dynamic, considering they spend most of the show either bickering or scattered around.

Crocs are the worst shoe, they look like shit and are impractical for running around.
They can be comfy if you wear thick socks with them... which he is not doing.
This design choice alone makes me distrustful of the entire production.

The digimon's characterization is strong. They all have distinct personalities that work well with the kid's personalities.
They are partners, they are not meant to stand alone or develop independently. Them being static is not bad characterization. Their job is to literally serve as vessels for their kid's character growth.
