This movie was beautiful, sweet and one of the best war movies about war that I ever saw. How come I never saw it mention it here?

She was nuked...

why are her feet so weird?

Because you're new

The better something is the less people talk about it on here.

because it released fucking 9 years ago
this shit made me emotional ngl and im usually not much for ww2 boohoos

Mai Mai Shinko and Arete Hime are better Katabuchi

Giovanni no Shima, Kaze Tachinu, and of course Hotaru no Haka are better World War II movies

Do you get to see her skin vaporize off like that one brutal classic?

it's very boring

The first time I watched it, when she said she was going back to Hiroshima I was ready for the worst.
Very good movie, one of my favorite ever but there's nothing to talk about it.
Just in case, know that there's an extended version that was released after the original made the money

Nah, she was in the next town over. Her whole family dies except her sister though, who is bedridden with cancer.

sister though, who is bedridden with cancer.

I could have saved her by marrying her and moving to Nagasaki

Japan started a war that killed millions of people and can't stop crying about how someone fought back. So tired of movies like this.

It's not discussed often because there's no drama or controversy to squeeze bumps out of; it's just a beautiful and poignant movie that tells the story of the Japanese civilian experience during WW2 without politicizing or milking it for cheap drama.

I'm guessing there's no mention of how her and her sister would be drilled into how to fight to death on the upcoming american invasion happening any day now, despite being girls, children, and civilians. How could those burgers be so cruel as to drop a fat one on them instead...

bro bro we need to nuke them twice because otherwise they will send civilians to fight once we invade them

They had several days to surrender after the first bomb and the Japanese government was divided between people who knew that surrender was the sensible option and the other half who wanted to fight to the last man. They also had a chance to surrender before the bombs.

The bombs were tragic but I'm so tired of this Japanese weepy WW2 shit where they act like they were the victims of the war they started. Imagine if we got cutesy cartoons about how sad Southerners were that General Sherman rolled in and made them give up their slaves.

How come I never saw it mention it here?

threads get hijacked by retarded mutts

you are retarded, you have no idea what the film is about but you come into the thread and assume this is some 'america bad' film. the only americans you see in the whole movie are part of the occupation and they're portrayed positively, the film is just trying to show how dogshit life was during WW2 for the average japanese citizen.

The bombs were tragic but I'm so tired of this Japanese weepy WW2 shit where they act like they were the victims of the war they started.

They were victims and aggressors, as were most countries and sides in the war.
In this movie, the MC was a victim. They have the freedom to make the story from that point of view not caring about a Anon Babble anon getting tired of it. Also they're not self-hating cucks like Germany

I've seen it. I hate that it's part of such a big genre of weepy Japanese media about how sad they are that someone fought back in the war they started. Oh boohoo, I'm supposed to feel bad that their life sucked once they plunged the world into chaos by trying to violently conquer and enslave half the planet? You don't see Germany making shit like this.

Overdose of american propaganda kek

You don't see Germany making shit like this.

because they're pathetic

Yeah, you're not even pretending to talk about the movie

who's 'they'? is our protagonist directly responsible for japan's involvement in ww2? was she one of the pilots that bombed pearl harbour, or one of the soldiers who participated in the nanking massacre?

You don't see Germany making shit like this.

you don't think a single german film maker has made a film about life in germany during WW2? get real, you can literally find examples by looking on google for 30 seconds

The protagonist isn't a real person. This was a film made by the descendants of Japanese warmongers where they make the war about an uwu cutesy girl whose life is made so hard >:l by those mean Americans who are attacking for no reason.

These movies are made for the consumption of Japanese viewers to feel less bad about their grandparents who were going around killing and raping people millions of people around the Pacific. Japan never makes movies like this about the victims of their atrocities, they don't seem to even give a fuck.

This was a film made by the descendants of Japanese warmongers

Prove the mangaka or the film crew were descendants of the ones who attacked Pearl Harbor or invaded Asia.
If you're implying that every Japanese has blood on their hands for what other Japanese did 100 yeara ago then you're just retarded

Fat hands wrote this post

Japan never makes movies like this about the victims of their atrocities

Name 10 American movies from the PoV of the Vietnam victims (even though you guys lost, the Vietnamese were the victims in that conflict)

Prove the mangaka or the film crew were descendants of the ones who attacked Pearl Harbor or invaded Asia.

They're Japanese. Almost every man in Japan was somehow complicit in the Japanese aggression. Hayao Miyazaki's dad manufactured parts for the Mitsubishi Zero that was used to terrorize the skies of China while Japanese soldiers raped/massacred peasants by the millions, and to attack American ships and sink 18 year old Navy draftees from Kansas to the bottom of the Pacific. Then Miyazaki made another one of these weepy ass movies that doesn't acknowledge the victims but has plenty of tears for the guys who built the weapons.

I don't blame these people for the crimes of their ancestors but I wish they would grow up instead of subjecting us to this slop. No other country has such an extreme victim mentality.

Nice pol post Up voted

the protagonist isn't a real person, but there were undoubtedly people who lived similar lives during that period. do you consider all japanese citizens during WW2 to be 'warmongers'? these movies don't exist to make people feel 'less bad' about their involvement in ww2, they exist to show people that war fucking sucks.

Japan never makes movies like this about the victims of their atrocities, they don't seem to even give a fuck.

once again, you could find examples by just looking for 30 seconds. here's an example:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sea_and_Poison_(film)

They're Japanese.

stopped reading there. You're not worth anyone's time, good night

Americans are retarded

Bruh what? Basically every popular Vietnam movie made in America is about how much it sucked for the Vietnamese. Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, etc.

The most weepy popular American movie I can think of about Vietnam is First Blood, but that doesn't exactly portray America in a very sanitized way either.

Friendly reminder, amerimutts suck at war they even got defeated by Cuba, also Japan was defeated by the USSR, they only surrendered after they lost Manchuria.

It's funny that you had to go back 50 years to find one example of a Japanese movie that sympathizes with their victims, and it's so obscure that it doesn't even have a Wikipedia synopsis. Meanwhile they're pumping out a new one of these "Japan was the REAL victim of WW2" movies every other year and lavishing them with awards.

oh no no. It must be about the victims of the atrocities like that anon () wanted. No nuanced movies about both sides sucking (which is where kono sekai would fit)

I am that person. Japan doesn't make movies about WW2 like America makes movies about Vietnam.

These weepy ass uwuified Japanese movies about WW2 don't even acknowledge that there were victims aside from the Japanese. You'd think they all take place in a world where the US decided to just start bombing Tokyo for no reason out of the blue one day, from the way they're framed.

I think I was more just waiting for the bombs to fuck everyone up. I get that it's a tragic tale but having your emotional crux, the entire point of what makes your narrative so tragic, being the atomic bomb is kind of boring story-wise.
It's the emotional equivalent of a fucking 'dog dies' movie, you spend almost the entire movie being endeared by a certain character and then they die or get into a terrible accident or whatnot.
I wish they had tried to do something more with the story other than making you anticipate the fucking bombs exploding

Japan was the REAL victim of WW2

They were the victims, only the amerimutts think otherwise.

took me 30 seconds btw, have you considered that you don't know these films exist because they aren't translated, like this one? while you may think it's 'obscure' it won awards in japan

These weepy ass uwuified Japanese movies about WW2 don't even acknowledge that there were victims aside from the Japanese

so you want a checklist for them to fill. Next you're going to ask for niggers and girl bosses

Find one Japanese movie from the 21st century that sympathizes with Japan's victims in WW2. I'll wait.

Nah I just want them to stop making this slop. There's more than enough of it already. I see why they do it though because clearly this kind of propaganda works on the people here.

lmao, they even got defeated by goat fuckers armed with rusty AKs after 20 years of invasion in Afghanistan, why amerimutts suck so much at war?

Coco_Ko.jpg - 848x1200, 938.24K

This movie got overshadowed in popularity by A Silent Voice and Your Name during its opening screening (all first screened in 2016), but it farmed way more awards than either of them

You will never see a decent discussion about this movie here though since it always devolves into mutt shitflinging, see for yourself

inb4 dindu nuffin

US decided to just start bombing Tokyo for no reason

Indeed, that is what happened, amerimutts bombing civilians and then saying it was their fault is a very typical amerimutt tactic.

Nah I just want them to stop making this slop

keep wanting then lmao

Japan launches a decade long war of aggression where they try to conquer half the planet and end up killing 20,000,000 civilians in the process

they attack the US unprovoked

US navy fights its way to Japan and starts bombing the Japanese capital for the last 5 months of the war in 1945

"NOOOO WE DINDU NUFFIN"

Find one amerimutt movie from the 21st century that sympathizes with amurica's victims in WW2. I'll wait.

America was the good guy in WW2

Source: trust me bro

Why are amerimutts braindead?

no, they need to use MY propaganda, not theirs!

wtf no...

No, those were the Germans, but the Amerimutts aren't ready for that conversation.

Okay looks based, I wish they made more like this and less of "you HAVE to feel bad for us over the war we started and killed 20 million civilians in because I drew a cute cartoon girl who is sad"

Do you really need a source for the basic timeline of events of WW2? Are you stupid?

Not from your propaganda ridden mutt sources, that's for sure

What claim are you even alleging is wrong?

you HAVE to feel bad for us

will you stop projecting, nigger?

This, amerimutts should make more movies about how they started WWII and killed 50 million civilians in it.

retarded Anon Babble samefag

He can't, golems can't think for themselves.

everyone who doesn't agree with my propaganda is a samefag

don't even bother, you're talking to amerishart from Anon Babble

How come I never saw it mention it here?

because you are new, inattentive or don't spend the vast majority of your time here
i have seen it mentioned many times
and yes, it's great

How come I never saw it mention it here?

Now you know.
I have to get around watching the extended version. I really liked the theatrical ver

who knew, we had the cure of cancer all along

lots of love and kisses and cuddles will save her
