The Viz manga, in all honesty. Far more accurate AND better-written than the Netflix shitlations.
If you use the Netflix, check both the sub and the dub translations because each of them get lines wrong, but they fuck up different lines.
I checked nyaa for fansubs but so far it's just one guy who makes minor edits to the Netflix version, and he's obviously speedediting since last episode he missed like 40% of the names he said he was going to de-localize. (Still appreciate the effort though.)

Yes. Anime going completely mainstream and most every show getting scooped up by one distributor or another, there just isn't a niche for dedicated fansub groups anymore. Of course, Ryugenzawa is a story they might skip because it is a side story and was adapted previously in an OAV.

If all the translations are accurate (big assumption I guess), the original anime kept the "I don't know how you'll ever find a husband" but cut the "Now me, on the other hand".

Honestly other than a scenario where they are guaranteed more than 115 episodes the Tea Ceremony is an obvious story to skip.

Side story? Not really. It is one of the major arcs both in terms of Rankane stuff and combat.

Blame the Cat curse for killing Ranma's interest. He laments in his mind that Shampoo leaving was pity, but after she comes back he stops being attracted to her. Shampoofags can cope with Reverse Jewel-arc all they like, but it's fundamentally yet another rendition of pic related: Ranma's ego driving him to validate his narcissism. She still fares better than Ukyo and Kodachi, but gets mogged hard by Akane

I will say that someone who is self-centered, petty and mean even if they aren't mean to you isn't necessarily someone you want to date. I imagine Ranma would end up having some trouble dealing with 'obstacles are for killing' even if he was dating her.

Bigger problem would be Shampoo's willingness to fuck with Ranma for petty entertainment (see instant Nannichuan-arc) and write checks her ass can't cash (see Pink & Link). When you think about it, Shampoo is too immature to handle Ranma despite being in love with him, lacking the (comparative) mental stability of Akane. While certainly immature and insecure herself, Akane at least manages to grow during the course of the manga. Meanwhile vol. 38 Shampoo isn't noticeably different from vol. 4 version.

People don't realize that a person's behavior to non-love interests basically show how they will treat you when the initial limerance phase ends / they have a fight with you.

That is my biggest hole of incomprehension with Shampoo waifufags (no judgment, honest, but I don't get it at all).

It has occurred to me that the old shoujo trope of the bad boy love interest who stabs everyone but the heroine is similar, but it somehow makes more sense to me than Shampoo's waifu appeal. But I think the difference there that the stereotypical bad boy makes an exception for the heroine because of her special deep inner kindness or some other soul thing, whereas Shampoo just makes an exception for Ranma because the Amazon homeowner's association code says she has to.

To be fair to Shampoo, she does seem to genuinely love Ranma. It's just too bad that she never developed as character, but same problem applies to most of the cast.

If they have 92 or 115 episodes to work with there is a good argument to be made for it.
However, imagine for a moment they only have 69 episodes. Where everything after the Musk Dynasty has to be cut to fit into 23 episodes.

6 episodes will be needed for the final arc, another 6 might be needed for Ryu Kumon, Ranma's reunion with his mom, and Ranma giving Akane his mom's "ring".
Every other character will need some attention, and they will definitely animate some of the fan favorite stories like the Mushroom of Time.

Ranma and Akane will definitely get a story or two, but is Ryugenzawa really the most important thing for them?
