Yeah, that was it. You were just too used to girls in anime either being tsunderes, kuuderes or manic pixie dream girls who all fawn over the protagonist 24/7. Yuta was far too beta to realistically deserve any special attention from a girl like Rikka outside of Kaiju incidents.
