I think he's had a problem since Namek because Goku became too powerful and he was fighting Gods and not actual beings more and more. This guy drew for things like Dragon Quest so he must have seen that as a problem I think. So that's why I think he did the super tournament - to pit beings on beings and to make the Gods mere beings.

But really he needed more Berserk tier struggle.
There's a reason why many people prefer Vegeta over Goku. He was always struggling to overcome the looming shadow of Kakarot.

The gender is not even the relevant issue for DBZ and cheap fan service would not revitalise it.

I like Goku and Vegeta equally. But I don't get the argument that Vegeta was a shit character because he's evil and arrogant. This led to him being quite compelling, and believe it or not but the jobbing and the struggles actually enhanced the character. Take his loss to 18 for example, at this point Vegeta became a Super Saiyan, which he believed to be the ultimate warrior in the universe. Goku was also a Super Saiyan, but he was still a low class warrior and he lost to 19 earlier. Vegeta thought he was already the best. Then he loses to 18. This leads to him standing in the middle of nowhere for a few days contemplating that he might be inferior genetically and there's nothing he can do against the Androids. But he decides otherwise, choosing to believe instead that he has no limits and with newfound motivation he will train to overcome the Androids. That kind of despair and introspection is something Goku doesn't go through a lot, it's not surprising some would choose Vegeta over Goku.

The shitshow is such a permanent stain on the franchise that they brought it to a crashing halt.
The only people who like Super are either very young, or people who would gladly drink a can of liquid shit so long as it was labeled "Dragon Ball" (consoomtards).
Even when the animation is considered "good" (not the early season crayon drawings they ended up "fixing"), it's still hideously ugly. There is something deeply off-putting about how the show looks and acts, like Leatherface wearing the skin of his victims the entirety of it has a creepy air of disingenuousness, it's a different show wearing a Dragon Ball Z costume that is rotting away.
I really and truly despise everything about Super, it is sincerely garbage top to bottom, in content and execution it is simply terrible.
The show was made by a bunch of suits who wanted to maximize what sold, and that was "powerful transformations" and "tournaments". In the entirety of Dragon Ball Z, there were 3 Saiyan transformations. In Super, which is a fraction of DBZ's length, there are 4 new Super Saiyans (God, SS God, SS God Evolved, Beast), or 7 if you count Ultra Instinct Sign, Mastered Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego. This is the ultimate flanderization of Dragon Ball, it's comical how shit it is.
