Though I wouldn’t technically classify it as a romcom, Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia still held itself up really well after its couple got together. It did this by tackling issues and cracks in their relationship while also moving the story along by setting a solid direction and weaving it with its themes. A romcom can follow that format without needing to be SoL from the start while maintaining the romance as the main plot from the beginning.

True but my point still stands. The story maintained its direction with what it had and expanded on what was there with the heart stuff. It’s not mainly about the heart plot itself but the circumstances around it that kept the story engaging and moving forward.
A romcom can still use an important element it has and expand that in meaningful ways just like Insomnia did. It doesn’t need hard drama or any of that but the problem is authors are either burned out by that point, not experienced enough to write past the “chase”, or just don’t see the merit. In any case, it’s not easy to write a couple past reaching a surface level goal and Insomnia funnily enough never really needed to deal with that part since the focus of their relationship wasn’t actually getting together, kissing, ect., but just overall understanding each other. The heart stuff would just be very detrimental if they had surface level goals since all it would do is create unnecessary drama.

Eh, I will read it when is done (and is not axed and people are happy about it), because you never know until the end. I recently read "are you okay with a slightly older girlfriend", starts strong but the last 3 volumes feels like they are trying to pad out and figure out the story, there is no real ending either, it just gets interrupted and funny thing, they have a cover with a wedding picture but no such thing happens or is hinted in any way.

It did go full drama but I disagree on the end part. The ending was well made enough and stuck to the spirit of the manga, though not the best and had some missed potential.

It's pretty normal as they come yet still really good, i'm a sucker for romances that does not focus entirely on themselves but go into proper detail of the characters goals and daily activities. Sounds obvious but you'd be surprised of how much romances can go without telling you absolutely NOTHING about the characters' lives.

Yeah it's great. What sucks is the stability always seems be threatened by schizos that the series inexplicably attracts. The first shitposter (who's likely in this thread) that attempted to derail threads with things like ruining dumps, bringing up retarded bait, or concern trolling about necrobumping or some made up esl. He seems to pop up and leaves when bored though. And now the threads are stuck with a legit (ironically) esl schizo that wants to police any post that triggers him because he thinks it's yuri and therefore the person hates Rentarou and is colluding with other people and artists to try to spread some pro-yuri and anti-Rentarou agenda. I tend to agree. When I made it I felt it was a bit more ambiguous, but it certainly feels more like CGDCT. At the time there were a couple of semi-romantic chapters that I felt might end up making a higher percentage of the manga. Or I think that was the logic.
