The reason why there are very few varieties in western comics and hardly any taboo stuff published is because there's only a handful publishers and all have strict rules to bypass. Look at Aniplex. Sony owns them and their output has remained the same. It'll be the same case with Kadokawa where they still do what they want while Sony reaps the money. Aniplex has even published their games on rival platforms like the Nintendo Switch.

IIRC, kadokawa does not own the rights to the manga that they publish. In Japan, rights are owned by the mangaka. If Sony came in and tried telling them what to do, they could just go to a different publisher.
