I got baited into watching this
I got baited into watching this
I got baited into watching the best high fantasy anime
Oh woe is me
Best elf
best
that's not Frieren tho
I know your feel op, I dropped this garbage by episode 6, nothing ever happens, when something happens it's all random crap with no build up, incoherent storytelling can only get you so far
which one? The OVA or the tv show?
This.
Frieren is good but it's no Lodoss War. I'll give you that they're more alike than they seem at first glance, given that they're very much products of their time.
Isn't this supposed to be based off of a dnd campaign
Yes. Japanese oldfag roleplayers would expand their campaign notes into a readable story and share them as "replays". Lodoss was a particularly popular one.
the romance stuff was added in after the fact since it would be too gay to roleplay a romantic relationship for the players there i guess.
This also happened because Parn died 4 sessions into the game.
To be fair, they're D&D players AND Japanese. Wouldn't be surprising.
The TV show sucks, thankfuly Parn and Deedlit are side charactes, you can just watch the OP and forget the rest exists. Or watch it, but it's very mediocre.
It's a deeply uninteresting show. Designs are nice, but they're attached to very uninteresting characters. Most people who adore it only do so because of the first episode's animation, it's basically a slide show thereafter.
You're a deeply uninteresting person.
I'm planted deeply in your mom
I think only the supporting cast is overly archetypal. The protagonists and antagonists are good.
And I don't think the ova's animation turns slideshow until it's going full retard and adapting 5 novels in as many episodes.
What other RPG campaigns have been turned into a full series like The Legend of Vox Machina and Record of Lodoss War?
My only real gripe with the animation is that the dragons besides the green one are mostly still frames but those designs were ridiculously detailed so I'm not surprised they would cut a corner there
most of us got baited to watch it. Only few mentally ill anons think it was good
Dragon Ball/Z is the only pre-2000s genuinely interesting anime where every episode retains your attention. This includes LotGH. It's an unfortunate monkey's paw as the stylization is so good, yet they're all so incredibly dull and usually very long to boot.
A lot of Narou writers cite Lodoss as inspiration for their work.
A replay is not a fleshed out story, it's a transcript. Lodoss was published as an introduction to D&D and supposed to showcase how D&D is played.
The novelization came after that.
Can you point out exactly at which point?
Grancrest War is also kino. Not quite as high fantasy though.
Not sure, I just recall hearing the anecdote
full retard and adapting 5 novels in as many episodes.
4 volumes: 3,4,6,7. With 7 not even finished.
Chaos Dragon from 2015. Based on a campaign by Nasu, Urobuchi, and friends. It was utter dogshit though.
I'm still pissed about that show cause the stories of their sessions could have made for a fun comedy instead of edgy garbage that took itself too seriously while also barely killing anyone off.
It's not even the best high fantasy anime based on that particular writer's works.
The only PC to die in the original replays is Orson and he's revived in the end.
At least Urobuchi's OC redeemed himself in his fantasy puppet show
dnd is a blessing to mankind
There's HarmonQuest by Dan Harmon himself
I think people liked it because it's utterly generic.
The characters are more fleshed out in the novel.
imagine eating the perfect food and now all your old favorites foods may as well be shit and now you'll never be able to enjoy anything other than this for the rest of your life
It really is a curse.
Still better than Frieren
I still think shoulder pads/pauldrons are fucking stupid, especially in a sci-fi setting.
This shit is so fucking gay. 3 episodes in and they're already talking about different kingdoms like as if i'm supposed to know them. What nerd created this?
Mizuno Ryo
good, it's a great d&d high fantasy anime which was balls to the walls nuts risk to take but it paid off in making it one of the most well known fantasy animes of its era
you're supposed to be stoked to find out "what kind of kingdom are they talking about, what are their reactions to the mention of that kingdom" etc
sorry that you're too used to spoonfed laughtrack bullshit to appreciate foreshadowing and respecting the viewer enough to not have the characters say ooc shit like "this kingdom we all know that is known for its metal production and mercenaries that is backed up by this guy everyone already knows in universe but for some reason we need to mention being the head of this faction"
it's called good writing, my condolences you didn't get to experience it more to appreciate it
