Is it?

It's not

Because it's a shoujo with shonen elements

it is

I want to eat Nabiki's poop

Nothing in Ranma is anything like most shoujo manga. It's also worse than even many mediocre shoujo manga I've read. People on Anon Babble just call anything with even a small bit of romance focus in it shoujo. Ranma is basically a shitty shounen romcom with a martial arts theme. If it was shoujo there would have been actual relationship progress instead of endless teasing.

I mean, it warranted a MAPPA remake, so I guess there are some people who like… whatever this anime is about.

it was made by a woman and written for women. Inuyasha is a shoujo

Both are shounen manga that were serialized in a shounen magazine that literally has "shounen" in its name. They also don't remotely resemble the average shoujo manga while being much more similar to the average shonenshit manga. But of course I know I shouldn't expect people on Anon Babble to know what they're talking about.

so what? Just because it's listed as something doesn't mean the demographics and who watches it aren't of a particular group. Delico's Nursury is listed as a Seinen, but it's clearly written for women. Not to mention Gundam was for boys, but girls latched on.

Guess what genius? Mangaka will sign deals with magazines because said magazine will PAY them

it is really true, I have all the Sailor Moon manga because my sister is a huge Sailor Moon fan. I started reading them out of boredom, and I was genuinely surprised by how much development there is. Shoujo manga are typically romance-focused, so it’s not entirely unexpected, but Mahou Shoujo, especially Sailor Moon, has nuch more character progression than I initially thought.

rumiko never intended for her works to be for women thou, and her initial plan was to make just scifi because she liked that genre, the love angle was what her first editor told her to do

Ukyo, Nabiki, Shampoo, running gags:
Ryoga getting lost on his way to the drugstore, Mousse having an armory up his sleeves, "what a haul! what a haul!",
Akane cooking putrid slop, Kuno's melodramatic buffoonery, panda Genma talking with signs,
Dr. Tofu losing his head around Kasumi, Soun becoming a giant purple ghost head with a lizard tongue when infuriated

Target audience and who reads something are different. And that isn't even my whole argument. There is nothing in the series that remotely resembles a shoujo manga. Ranma has more in common with fucking Naruto than any shoujo manga I've read. You have no idea what you're talking about and are likely another Anon Babble poster that likes arguing about genres and demographics you've never touched.

good gags carried by fun characters

rumiko is popular cause of UY and maison ikkoku

OG anime is full of fanservice

MC turns into a cute biological girl so men don't have to feel weird about finding girl ranma attractive

women love it cause the main relationship is "girl and boy fight like an old married couple"

troons love it cause they self insert into ranma

there that's it

While Shinchan and Doremon are probably the two animes closest to being the Japanese Simpsons, Rumiko's manga does come close. It's just one of those comedies that everyone in Japan likes, I'm sure your own country has its equivalent.

the target audience for Ranma 1/2 is girls. Here and I quote

Takahashi purposefully aimed the series to be popular with women and children. In 1993, an Animerica interviewer talking with Takahashi asked her if she intended the sex-changing theme "as an effort to enlighten a male-dominated society."

Doraemon’s popularity is widespread throughout Southeast Asia and Japan, mostly because of the titular character himself being so recognizable and the show being dubbed in multiple languages. Shin-chan is a perverted adult anime with a children’s cartoon veneer, so I don’t get its popularity either. Ranma 1/2 is perverted as well, but it’s targeted at teenagers.

here is quote

quote somehow changes the fact that the shit is not even remotely close to typical shoujos and the show attracted just as many men

While Shinchan and Doremon are probably the two animes closest to being the Japanese Simpsons

no, its Sazae-san which has been running since 1969

… no, I think Ranma was intended to be a girl, but the editor in charge insisted on the character being a boy, so a middle ground was found with a magic spring that makes Ranma both a boy and a girl.

nah the male mc was initially supposed to be a boy that turned into a dog even had nosebleeds at women, the heroine was supposed to be chinese looking girl because Rumiko found that cute, and she created Ranma with the chinese outift

huh… guess the initial and final premise are equally dogshit. anyway, female Ranma in the Chinese outfit is the better designed variant.

excuse me for being a dog was the initial setup

Doesn't mean it wasn't written for girls. You forget anime in the 80's was generally considered for children, teenage boys, and man children otaku. Ranma 1/2 and Rumiko actually wrote one for women to enjoy.

She'll let you, for a price.

Explain all the fanservice, then.

Character interaction. A rare thing nowadays when everything is guided by shock value, see DDD.

But characters interact in Dandadan??? If you should criticize any manga for character interaction, or lack thereof, there’s no better example than Jujutsu Kaisen (JJK).

There is something very shocking about Ranma½:
It still tries to be heart warming despite having a really perverted premise.

shoujo is rife with naked girls and sex. Girls LOVE sex in their literature. Far more than boys.

Girls LOVE sex in their literature. Far more than boys.

Dude, I know that, but Ranma’s fanservice isn’t geared towards girls.

Why do you make retarded threads on Anon Babble? I genuinely don't see the appeal.

Explain

Damn, I didn’t know it got 161 episodes.

Tell me you have no idea about DanDaDan, without telling me... There are a shitton of casual scenes in the manga, where characters just talk about random stuff, and have a life outside of the fights. So try harder next time, tourist.

Millennial mid life crisis.

You know whats even rarer? People who are not tourist in the wild, acting like they know everything just because they saw a pic or two, or read someone else opinion without checking the source.

wqq.jpg - 800x533, 150.15K

is always in the top of favorite anime from this season.

It's always been the most entertaining Takahashi episodic series.
It's fun and dumb which is really charming.

The eye doesn't see
The eye doesn't know
it was blinded a long time ago
but the anons still know
and the anons still see

guided by shock value

Funny when Ranma is guided by comedic happenings after comedic happenings
