In Sandro's extremely ham-fisted attempts to make the reader dislike Yumi, he actually made Yumi an underdog by giving him an extremely cruel and uncaring adversary (the writer himself)
So now every time Sandro gives Yumi a knife, or says he is a ruthless criminal who steals kidneys from children, people feel bad for the character because the writing is so unbelievably against him

He's a master of lowering stakes if nothing else.

From his introduction he felt like a genuine underground fighter rather than a heckin wholesome faggot kindergartner who's super friends with everybody. Making him an enemy of Metsudo, the worst character in all of Kengan, sealed the deal.

I was mostly confused at first then once I started to realize my mind was engulfed by complete terror. Kengan Omega is the best horror manga.

I guess'd it was Yumi second after Koga said he got a score to settle.

He was a decent heel character with a design that made you think of apes. He was just a dick that thought highly of himself and left the Fang position for something he liked better. That was perfectly fine, it gave him beef with Agito, it made him look strong, and he could have been a potential rival for Koga. Then comes the tournament itself and Sandro tries way too hard to make you hate Yumi, with stuff like his own teammates shitting on him constantly. This all culminates with the Misasa match where Metsudo quite literally wants to see Yumi get buck broken. It's revealed Yumi murdered Yasunaga, a character that didn't even exist before this match. All this reveal did was make Yumi unfathomably evil because the reader is not given much background on the murder so it just looks like Yumi killed somebody for no reason. To Sandro, when a character is unfathomably evil he is free to put them through all kinds of humiliation.
This made a lot of readers sympathetic to Yumi, because what could have just been a normal heel was turned into the devil so he could be humiliated and buck broken for Metsudo's pleasure.

I'm also pretty sure he isn't sharpening the knife properly. The action lines suggest he's going up and down the whetstone, when you're supposed to go side to side.

In other words, right now the tables have turned. Now Yumigahama is, in all metrics and forms, the bullied, the guy with all odds stacked against him. He will confront a guy that got everything he lacked: teachers, freedom of movement, a network, etc.

The most evil part of knife execution is that someone else has to die just to touch the knife first and put it into the condemned's hand.

Koga will kill Yumi and the narrative/moral of the fight will be Koga finally understanding that some people are just so terrible and evil that they need killing.
Ryuki will come out of the shadows and assure Koga he did the right thing and had no choice(Yumi was weeping on his hands and knees begging for his life at the time), and they have sex right there on the floor of the garage while Yumi's blood pools nearby.

Imagine if Koga actually killed Yumi. Not that it will happen, but imagine.

Koga will achieve moral victory by "just" breaking all of Yumi's bones but keeping him alive

The nature of the knife curse is not yet well researched, much less any other types of sharp weapons. For example, Ohma wielded a knife in his childhood, which led to him meeting Niko and getting pretty strong. So far so good, right? Except then he jobs to Tiger, loses all of his memories, and is now forced to use an offshot of a jobber technique every fight, one that slowly kills him. He also spends years just wandering around and fighting low level thugs like Koga. Only after going knife free for years he was finally able to get on a higher level.

It's been a while since Sandro put such genuine palpable spite and hatred into a chapter. We're so back.

Don't forget that Ohma's Niko specifically developed a technique for purging the jobber energy from a person's body to save them from their fate and stop them from using death flag transformations. It's very possible that he was able to suppress the knife curse as well and got to Ohma just in time before it progressed to an untreatable level.

Reminder that this was easily as spiteful and unprovoked as Yumi's suckerpunch on him and literally the only thing Koga has ever done in response even years later is refer to Himuro a bit less respectfully than Kaneda.

Himuro figured out the meta and realized that if there is never a rock bottom Koga's wrath will not reach him. This is why he has been in a free fall since his loss to Kaneda.

One could argue that defeating Xia Ji where Himuro failed to restrain him even with THE Inaba Ryo's help was revenge by proxy, in an "I will never forget this humiliation!" kind of way. A flex, if you will.

Too bad that Himuro exists in a constant state of remembering which fighters he almost beat anyway.

If one were to purposefully, with full knowledge, wield a knife to hex himself, would that result in a surge of power? What about using a weird knife, like a dull one or a badly made one - would that mimic Raian's feat of using a sword?

We might see how sharpness factors in the severity of the curse in the next chapter, since Yumi is using a freshly sharpened one.

People tend to misunderstand because Raian stacked several buffs alongside the knife hex. The blade *was* susceptible to the curse, which is why he started fighting better after dropping it and made a point its usefulness is first and foremost a training tool rather than a weapon. Sean got hit first because he had the Wu + Henchman + Knife + Ambush hexes stacked at the same time, which instantly directed the flow of Kengan Metaphysics toward him.

Consider also that Ohma was mainly shown fighting adults in the Inside, who would all have the "larger man" debuffs on top of likely carrying knives or other hex-attracting weapons of their own. It's entirely possible that despite performing well against grown men, young Ohma was regularly beaten up by other feral martial arts-practicing street children.
