That was great. Yeah, it's not beating the "Symphogear for little girls" allegations but a year long Symphogear coming out every week should be a fun time after that episode.

I liked the character interactions between Minamo and her friend. It made for a good first episode, and her friend turning comatose immediately raised the stakes for the next episode. Definitely a solid start.
There are some interesting lore-details as well, like how boys aren't allowed (but all the bad guys are boys)? Maybe locking people out based on gender is not how you create an actual utopia? It could be something interesting for them to explore.

I'll probably just wait until 3 or so episodes with subs are out before deciding if I feel like watching weekly.

They've skipped the OP and ED for the first episode, I was wondering if it was a good move to skip the OP for a kids show or not.
But they've been able to cram more content that way and I'm personally satisfied by this choice.
Next week should have at least the OP or ED animation.

The ED being all black this episode was interesting. I'm not sure if it feels unfinished or "wow, this feels like a movie ED".

When you think about it, the main writer worked on Nyaruko, which is a LN/anime about the main girl being a LITERAL lovecraftian Cthulhu (she just hides her true form), I think this scene in particular makes you think that the whale is going to eat the pony for a moment, kinda feels like his sense of humor in Nyaruko surfacing for a bit. Even some fairies looking "ugly" could be on purpose.

Backgrounds of the human world feel more like "regular anime" if that makes sense, which is a nice contrast to the colorful world in Alicepia.
I think Precure also gets this idea in situations like... how they're making hair color of civ designs in last few seasons more "natural" so that the Cure hair stands out more after transformation.

I'm looking forward to seeing the full transformation scenes. I wish that this show had english subs, but I might be able to work off of the Japanese subs and hope that my anki reps have prepared me.

I wouldn't be qualified to translate. The JP subs just makes it easier for me to follow and lets me easily look up any words I may not know and mine them for my anki deck.

No, they've confirmed one year of Princession Orchestra. What happens after that is up to fate.

I like that they have ~50 eps so they have room to cram in plot, SOL, character development, action etc. in. I can deal with the CG zoom ins of toys and less fan service. I like Kaneko Akifumi being able to put his stamp on the mahou shoujo genre with a real kids show rather than yet another 'deconstruction'.

I think they said it could become a bigger franchise if it's popular enough, or something along those words.
I'm completely assuming the concept of "generations" because that's the tradition for Precure/Kamen Rider, etc, but it could just very well be new seasons with the same characters ala Doremi or the Precure sequels.

I think everybody would jump to Kanade because it's more gory, but when you put it in perspective, Nacchi's scene is quite dark for a 2025 little girl anime, sure Wonderful Precure had some dark scenes at the end, but I feel like they're a bit scared now of getting too heavy too early so that little girls could drop the show, here we have a scene on a similar level to Nao (almost) failing to protect her family in Smile Precure, but in fucking episode 1 of all places, it takes some balls to include that in a modern-day little girl anime. Or maybe they really want to target those slightly older little girls so it's not a complete overlap with Precure.

Don't ask me to post the proof right now, but I think that's exactly what happened with WP. Fuku's fate was shown at the end of that season for that purpose, same for the late plot developments.

KR plots also tend to be more serialized but sentai has had that plenty in the past decade.

The general idea is that Super Sentai targets younger boys while Kamen Rider targets older boys (and also the "family").
While Super Sentai has a giant mecha, Kamen Rider only has ground-level fights (99% of the time anyways).
Kamen Rider is more urban fantasy/sci-fi, it has themes like the hero and the villains having the same powersource, but the hero uses it for good (for example, in the first Kamen Rider the MC was a human modified by the villain organization, but before his brain was changed he escaped, he's technically made in the same way as the monsters in the series but despite being a "non-human" he fights for humanity instead, this kind of theming manifests in many ways in other seasons, some more subtle and others more obvious).
