Koichi serves not some nebulous ideal but a community and a place. Natuhata is a character in and of itself, there are large iconagraphic structures and most importantly there is a large cast of civilian characters.

Gotta agree with this. The first Nomu fight became iconic because it was really well made in the anime for the reasons you mentioned, not because the story behind it carried it.

Not to say it was bad at all, but it was just s simple slugfest between All Might and a literally brainless punching bag, and it happened in essentially the first arc of the story where your attachment to the characters was still in its very early stages. It's great that the big hero with the hidden injury came to save the kids in danger, but at this point you're probably still in the process of remembering the names of half of said kids. Anything less than the stellar performance of BONES for that fight would have left it a mere footnote from when the story was learning to walk. IMO it's from Deku vs Shoto onwards that the story has done enough setup to earn the big impact of its scenes without the need for animation or soundtrack elevating them.

I do hope something similar happens to Vigilantes, which always had rather weak action and very few "hype" moments in the traditional shonen sense.

Nothing truly damning. It's serviceable and does nothing wrong, it's just that the artist's fights aren't particularly dynamic or impactful. It may feel unfair when put next to Hori who is already well above the average mangaka for action scenes, but I'd still say the fights lack oomph.

Not to say it doesn't have ANY impact. Pic related is from chapter one, but it's rare for this much care put into blow for blow fights across the story.
Also, the average fights do improve in the last couple of arcs, but overall don't go in expecting to be enthralled by the action.

This is really different from MHA since it's a smaller cast, no school, plot is basically what if Batman was Spiderman's mentor. If that sounds like the kind of stuff you like then give it a go.
The main show isn't required but there was a backstory flashback in the manga for a character that this anime will probably omit, since said flashback was put in the mainline Anime.

the main show isn't really required since they give you all the context about the series' power system in the first few minutes, and a lot of the world building actually comes from the spin off itself instead of the main series. a lot of the early parts of the series is kind of episodic and the plot can feel plodding at times though. admittedly that does help give it a nice close-knit neighborhood feel.

One of the main aspects of both MHA and Vigilantes is the society not turning a blind eye to those in need. Koichi is the embodiment of that idea, he helps others no matter how big or how small. Its not just about taking on the big bad, its about doing something for the people on the ground, the little guy who often gets ignored when a bigger threats comes around. While Deku is fighting a world ending villain, Koichi is zipping around place to place making sure peoples pets are safe or ensuring parents find their lost children. Koichi accomplishes plenty, it just isn't nearly as flashy as Deku.

The final volume has an illustration of the two of them sitting on top of the statue of liberty together. Sure you could debate whether or not its meant to be canon, but I doubt it would be included if it wasn't intended show the two of them are together.

2. Koichi didn't warn Pop about the police in public, pretty irrelevant.
3. The Trigger dealer was changed A bit bold yo introduce Six in the first episode, but the change does make sense, the original dealer made little sense because he never had any further connection and was kind of a dead end, having him just be another addict is more fitting
4. The attempted rape was changed to just stripping her for humilliation. Not sure if this was an actual change or if the translation was wrong in the first place, but it is more fitting to keep Soga redeemable.
