Not sure how they're going to make it lighter in tone (what they did in the anime) without sacrificing the content. The Tokyo trip arc was a major development in the manga that started its gradual shift to coming of age drama. Well, technically, it started with the family beach trip, but the Tokyo trip was when the tone became serious. Some people might even thought that the slap was forced drama.

But at least at that point you still had plenty of fanservice. The post-anime chapters had less and less of it. Hiro was probably in some kind of dilemma between pandering to school girl fetish enjoyers or SOL dramafags and he mostly chose the latter (especially after finding out women also read this and they did it for the SOL/drama).
