I think you're on to the money Kamachi I was far more engaged with Mikoto fighting powersuit guys with flamethrowers and Touma using a DIY gun against Stiyl with a flame sword than I was trying to follow high level magicians speak words at each other. It's just easier to visualise the lower power battles.
Also the Transcendents arc really was just filler because the next novel looks to be more NT23 than GT13.
