Nta but you seem to confuse "otaku bait" with anime/manga in general.
If we look at any popularity chart (which in turn correlates to profitability), what we will find at the top are usually shonen franchises that do not follow the otaku gospel as strictly as more niche works and have many questionable plot lines in that regard - just look at examples mentioned here .
I can also mention the recent influx of non-virgin romcoms (higehiro, that blonde bitch whose name I don't remember, various adult romances) and japanese-western collaboration projects, and this indicates that otakus seem to lose the purity war overall.
Visual novels are probably the most otaku-friendly medium as of now, but they've been in decline for many years and are eventually going to dissolve into the sea of shitty EVNs from Steam.

Stuff like Dragon Ball, MHA, Fire Force, and One Piece are otaku friendly.
Other stuff like Chainsaw Man at least keeps one foot in it.

Hoyo obviously felt the heat presented by a more traditional anime-ish Wuthering Waves (imagine if they were facing something with character designs and writing on par with Fate instead of overly busy designs and writing that can't even follow a three act structure) and are inching more in the direction.
