And, instead of using it to promote their game in Japan, they sent the Lodoss guys a cease&desist letter, demanding that they stop publishing material based on their game. The Lodoss guys initially complied, but then they made their own D&D clone, Sword World, with the explicit purpose of using it for Lodoss campaigns. Then they got Amano himself to illustrate their rulebook. It was a smash hit and completely blew D&D out of the Japanese market. It has not recovered ever since and will never recover.

Frieren doesn't ever develop magic she doesn't have to, even if she wants that magic and seeks out tomes with it. It's not so much about ability as it is about drive. Frieren is so enamored with Flamme, and humanity, because she admired her drive and the results such drive has born into the world

We don't know anything Frierens elves aside from being a dying race, but she was involved in the development of Zooltrak (if it was spelled that way), if I remember correctly. Serie supposedly also developed a lot of spells.

Like say, if they have a lifespan of 10000 years, but 2000 of those years they become much weaker and suffer from mental health (Add in magic becoming weaker too), this would make human lifespan look more appealing since they'd suffer with age for less time.
