I'd say that Idol and TR are in a similar tier (I do like Idol more), but Idol does pretty easily beat any season in the last 3 years, just going by my impression of the first cour. I'm not really factoring in the Mother's day episode either; I'm assuming that level of quality is just a one off thing and not representative of the 2nd cour overall.

Was this the mid season finally? Sure felt like it compared to the the Twilight conclusion.
Visually this episode was a treat. The combat, the art styles, the editing, everything visual was really good. I'm not quite sure how I feel on the story as there was just so much constantly happening that this could have been 2 or even 3 episodes.
Summary for the anons that need it: After the previous cliffhanger with Hope Kingdom Castle descending on Noble Academy, the cures prepare for the ultimate show down with Lock and his creation. Only Towa can transform and she guards the four girls while they affirm with Yui everything is going to be alright. When ready it turns out Pafu can teleport the girls into the castle, leaving Scarlet to fight Lock's clone and guard Yui. Inside everything turns out to be MoTW and Aroma sacrifices himself to distract a lock clone; the MoTW set to ultra dumb as there are too many on the screen. In the Throne room the powerless cures take a few lickings from Lock until the 4v1 finally outsmarts Lock long enough for Haruharu to unlock the Dress Up Key Cage. The girls transform and begin their fight with Lock. Still recovering from their previous loss, Scarlet returns joins them having purified one clone. After a quick reprimand from Scarlet, the cures take on the frogified Lock who beings a desperate flailing against all four. As their spirits align the whole castle transforms into the new purifying device and Lock is finally neutralized. The girls land on the beach to celebrate with Yui while an ominous crow takes Lock's powerup device.

For you Yui lovers, I will hand it to you. I really felt her in this episode. If this continues on my disappointment I expressed before will likely be nullified.
I want to say this episode was a Haruharu episode, but it really was the main Trio's episode. All of them trying to recover their fighting spirit. I thought last episode they had recovered, but turns out the new keys can't transform them; that really surprised me. Still they got them back after some silly tag time. I was hoping Lock would get a little more aggressive, but he needs to be ultra arrogant until he's losing.
Oh man once the fight reached the frog stage it was off its rocker. Each perspective change had a new art style, some more artsy fartsy like this, while other, mostly the Cure side, being very clean and crisp 3D models. Very fun and had to stop a couple of times to actually look over what each style was doing and how they were doing it.

GoPri has a bunch of subplots and mini-arcs that helps it keep momentum even in the second half. Like some seasons take it too easy in the third cour but GoPri is a show I think has momentum all-around.

Normally I hate these serious episodes, maybe I have just hit all the wrong seasons, but GoPri has struck a really nice balance for me on these serious ones were I'm not bored and the silliness isn't jarring. The whole scene before the throne room is silly and pointless, but its like a minute long and a quick reprieve before the cures must take their lickings for the keys.
I know I'm a terrible person, but when I saw Aroma doing this, all I thought of is him skull fucking Lock

I noticed, you have weirdest takes.
I mean, it's fine to want comfy cuteness but that's what separates Precure from regular moe SoL otaku anime, it's made for little girls and has lessons, the occasional seriouness is an essential part of the formula.
Overall very good end to the ark, great episode.

Yeah I've started noticing that since everyone said the twilight episode was the mid point at five episodes early. Instead we got a mid season arc that was chef kiss really.

I tend to like the serious episodes when they aren't expected. If I know the episode is super cereal time, I think I just want to make it hurry up. That's probably just a fault of being too old for the series's demographic. Like with Wonderful, I know the final episode is coming, I know what its conclusion is without having to look anything up and I just want it to hurry up. Maho's conclusion was very fun as it introduced the Kirakira girl and they had one silly little fight.

I don't relate to that at all, even if someone has a good guess about future plot beats, the execution side of things is still interesting to see unfold, you can do a lot of basic ideas better or worse.
Wanting the show to "hurry up" just sounds like you're doing out of obligation or something. I guess you can watch a media even if your investment level is low/ok enough, but I dunno, why someone would tackle a 1000+ eps franchise with this mindset? If you have a very specific palate for shows, just find ones that fit it more precisely rather than watching a good 1/2 or 1/3 of a show on autopilot.

Its just particular episodes and to some extent there is a bit of obligation, but at the same time I go in hoping I am wrong. My hope is low, but then something happens and I am suddenly excited. Overall I am very happy with precure, and every episode just has some episodes that aren't for me. I don't think there is any anon that could disagree lest they are hyper autists. If you track all my reviews, I am pretty happy with just about all and the worst episodes are the super serious ones and the worst I rate them are not top 10. I will likely remember them, but probably not ruminate on them.
Yes5(not gogo), Smile, TR, HS, Hugtto, Maho, ST, Smile again because I really love it and got a 1080p version, Wonderful, and now GoPri.

Like I said I liked Smile a lot. the episode before mid season is one I really wanted to move along. I understand why its there, but just please hurry up. Serious episodes like Yayoi's dad is top ten.
Hugtto was very memeable and I think the comedy tended to carry the heavier episodes, and I really enjoyed George as he was a little more sinister and subtle creeping on Hana.
ST I have notoriously disliked the final battle episodes, but space really carries it for me; my parents were TOS Trekkies and they have all the episodes on VHS. That being said I enjoyed Modoka more than the average Anon it feels like. Started out not liking Hikaru, but really fell for her and her back after the Ship repair episode.
