I can't for the life of me remember the link talking about it, but there was a korean article discussing how Korean novels like ORV and such were, over time, becoming more homoerotic rather than about an MC becoming overpowered. The term coined was "BL shift" since it shifted the target audience and genre in the middle of the story. Many non-BL novel readers were so hostile to this phenomenon that even completely platonic and brief same-sex relationships were forced to carry the BL/BL-adjacent label from the get-go in fear of backlash. This was talked about 2-3 years ago in Korean circles, so I wonder if things changed since then, and if there's any sort of equivalent to that in Japanese circles.
