You're not a true otaku if you aren't open to trying every single genre of animanga

You're not a true otaku if you aren't open to trying every single genre of animanga

I've read thousands of manga and I would never call myself an otaku
basing your entire personality around media consumption is retarded

You've read thousands of manga yet you still call them "media" instead of art? you're trying way too hard or you have autism

Correct.
It’s not the label but the mindset.

I don't want such a shitty title and I will not into horror anything. It's boring.

art is such a pretentious word

It’s not the title it’s the mindset.
And if you aren’t an otaku you’re on the wrong website.

japanese people told me otakus are stinky >:(

Zoomers really like labeling themselves. Just like what you like... I mean, shit...

why did you delete it

It's only pretentious if the people who use it are pretentious

I think everything made by living beings is art, manga, anime, paintings, novels, video games, any kind of craftsmanship, acting, and such

humans were born to make art, the meaning of life is art, you experience art to create art and that's the whole reason for people to keep living

if anything is art, then why even make the distinction between art and media, when it follows that media is art, according to you

Art is anything presented as such. Not everything humans produce is art.

The poser/enthusiast distinction is not a new one.

Likewise, if you don’t enjoy average anime you’re not an anime fan, you’re a tourist.

Because that word is overused to diminish the importance of art

Bullshit.
And I can say it because Ive tried pretty much all genres so under your line of thinking, I'm like a fucking expert

An expert? Wow, you must have watched over 100 animes.

Watching all genres of anime doesn’t make you an expert.
Refusing to watch an anime because of its genre prevents you from being an expert.

not into little girls yet somehow this gif is alluring

Stop it, Japan

Anon that’s an animated character not a little girl.

TRVTHNVKE

If you aren’t an otaku why are you here?

he said this while posting on Anon Babble

Though to be fair the fact you are making a post here at all will always make you lose any argument.

I just don't care about genres but I gotta admit I avoid CLEARLY yaoi series, not exactly avoiding shows with cute boys but just if the show it is really just about guys being gay, I doubt I ever missed anything good there.

There’s some good artsy Yaoi shows but most aren’t necessary for heterosexual men.

yeah me too guys haha definitely don't share your yaoi recommendations i would hate that sooo much

bara and kemono are difficult for me, it's rare to find something that feels soulful to me

I need to read Kemono Giga

Manga of a genre that gaijin have no interest in at all.

I wish to try this genre of Nekomusume

I like Texhnolyze, Haibane Renmei and Lain so I'm a true elitist.

Because they read manga? This place is great for finding new series. Never been a "fan" of any franchise either, don't get how people get so attached to stories. Just consume them and move on.

I recommend this manga to you, and this manga will never be animated.

In Japan, you will be considered an annoying otaku.

Which age group of catgirls do you prefer?

9984153i.jpg - 620x516, 92.39K

2013 and the one before.
Very hot

The visual evolution of Neko-Musume is really cool, you can clearly see how girls in anime have changed over time. From a goofy boyish blob with a bowlcut to cutesy and doll-like to a modern bishoujo aimed at the otaku audience. Neat stuff.

Yeah me neither. I had this thing i usually read lots of lolicon hentai even yuri loli but i realized that actually reading the story is not my thing; i was reading this manga of a lesbian lolicon that has a crush on her cute neighbor but i couldn't read that much because made me awkward. Weird.

I'm severely lacking in the Mahou Shoujo genre, I'm interested in Sailor Moon but I'm too lazy to consume the original series which apparently doesn't make that much of a great work adapting the original story.

And then there's also Madoka, but that's more of a deconstruction so maybe I won't enjoy it that much if I don't consume much more "normal" shoujo shows

I only like yaoi if at least one character is a shota. I had my first consenting gay experience at 14 so that's prob why.

The 2007 version, which is the fifth period, is popular in Japan
The 2013 version has different tastes
I prefer the 2007 version

Sailor Moon enhances the manga and is absolutely worth checking out specifically as a first timer dipping their toe in. It’s a show that cross appeal.

The only elite taste in anime is the guy who’s open to everything, engages in good faith, and is self aware about his own taste, working to expand it if possible. A truly bad work should be interesting to place in context, not something to whinge about. That’s a patrician.

The TV show is better than the manga. It's episodic, but it's comfy and fun.
Or you can just go watch Precure, which is probably what you're actually looking for. The currently airing season, Kimi to Idol, is really good, check it out. Either that or Heartcatch Precure, also considered one of the best.

Minky Momo + Sailor Moon (series) + Nanoha + Precure + Madoka. Get going.

I think this anime fits the bill perfectly.

doremi.jpg - 896x504, 154.05K

You have good taste.

1d9e9105.jpg - 400x255, 18.05K

Also good.
And adjacent but not quite, Princess Tutu

Listen to Ojamajo Doremi is a fantastic show.

AHHHHHHH.jpg - 1170x867, 88.08K

Based

Mahou Shoujo genre

Noice

Watching and every piece of shit is what you do when you're brand new and excited.

Decades in, you should already know what you like.

You haven’t experienced the rebirth yet.

Didn't an anon upload episodes of Doremi in parts to catbox? What happened to that, I don't remember seeing any threads about that.

You can always like anime more.

What does that even mean? The average anime is shitty romcoms due to their sheer quantity, so I'll assume that that is what you're referring to.
Tell me why I would have to like shitty romcoms to be an "anime fan", despite the fact that I generally loathe romcoms, regardless or whether it's anime or western.

missing out on golden kamuy

its over for you guys

You dumbfucks tricked me into watching Ordinal Scale with this bullshit

You are not a true otaku unless you also watch kodomo shows.

giphy.gif - 160x160, 315.19K

I just couldn't get into this, the one with the blood-coughing chick, and Dokuro-chan. I know they're comedies but it felt like those old fairy tales I read, way back then.

That's the thing I'm fine when it's for laughs and occasionally, like in golden kamuy, i guess that the manga with the yuri lolicon with the age gap is also comedy but there are a couple of moments when she's too get caught and don't know felt too real.

I was in the same position as you. I tried Sailor Moon but found it fairly boring, but I really enjoyed Cardcaptor Sakura, so I would recommend you try that first.

If you can’t appreciate a dead average anime then you don’t really like anime. You’re just skimming.
It’s okay not to like romcoms but the appropriate response is “that’s not for me” not “they are shit”.
Try to push your comfort zone but if you are physically incapable then you’re filtered out of the genre and your input boils down to “I don’t connect to it”.

I just can't get into mecha stuff

I tried Evangelion and thought it was shit, I tried Gundam (the original and the new one) and thought both were shit, I liked Gurren Lagann but that's mostly because it was hype moments and aura the anime

Can anyone tell me how I can enjoy them more? its weird because I love tokusatsu, specially Ultraman im a huge ultraman fan, but mecha is just so boring to me, i just cant feel attached to these giant robots at all

crawl back into the swamp of "shit I don't enjoy"

just watch 10x as many series, most of them leaving you awkward or bored

maybe there's one you'll like (a bit)

No, thanks. I've done that with hentai, so I know I'm already not into unbirth. Shove it up a futa cock before crawling after it for your rebirth.

I only vaguely like the robot stuff, it’s more about the characters and the situations that battling robots put them in. You can try G Gundam and Giant Robo because you liked TTGL. Maybe give Code Geass or Eureka Seven a try.
This too.

no way adult males actually watch this...

I tried Evangelion and thought it was shit, I tried Gundam (the original and the new one) and thought both were shit, I liked Gurren Lagann but that's mostly because it was hype moments and aura the anime

I love tokusatsu

Sounds you specifically don't like real robot and instead would be more suited for super robot.

The not enjoyment part is the issue. But hey being picky is fine as long as you don’t speak as a fan.

If you can’t appreciate a dead average anime then you don’t really like anime. You’re just skimming.

That seems unfair, considering that I don't like the dead average of any media, which by your logic would mean I'm not a fan of anything, and yet I enjoy plenty of media.
Additionally I like a lot of anime with elements that are especially unique to anime, making them more anime than average anime, and yet apparently to you that isn't good enough since liking what is average to anime is more important than liking what is unique to anime,

watch G gundam
watch new getter robo (2004) and armageddon OVA
watch giant robo OVA
watch gaogaigar

Mostly autistic ones. Like very autistic ones are obsessed with it.

Fair or not it’s the case. If you only skim then you’re a skimmer. Which is fine, but most skimmers don’t have self awareness that that’s what they are. I’m a video game genre skimmer, I don’t speak on fighting games or RTS games like I’m a genuine fan, it’s just not what I am. I can speak to the games I do play.

Oh yeah, that should help, especially because I like loli

Also you can’t claim you’ve run out of good anime if you are under 1000 watched, and that’s generous.

Additionally I like a lot of anime with elements that are especially unique to anime, making them more anime than average anime

So you watch anime with romcom elements, and elements present in romcoms, which have plenty of things unique to anime, but not romcoms?

that isn't good enough

Why call yourself a fan of media when you hate 99.9% of the media?

I wouldn't say it's "basing your entire personality around media consumption", it's kinda just a categorical thing.
The things I enjoy most are film and video games,
the majority of the relationships I have revolve around them pretty strongly (even with people who have vastly different tastes than me), including my family (specifically father whom I inherited most of them from),
I'm single and have no intention of changing that,
I have no interest in sex and the only thing I use my sex drive for is to collect and fap to entire Gelbooru galleries of girls I like,
what I get most out of music is thinking about the directorial application of it (think Interstella 5555/The Wall),
and what I ultimately get out of my job is working towards having the security to make my own art.
I would very much consider myself an "otaku", I just don't see any reason to go around calling myself one.
The people who do typically are the ones who have absolutely nothing else going for them accomplishment or self-esteem wise so they validate themselves on what nationality the girls they fap to are.

001.jpg - 243x324, 65.58K

My taste is “I only watch masterpieces that appeal to what I like”

Okay enjoy the 50 anime before you burn out.

So you watch anime with romcom elements, and elements present in romcoms, which have plenty of things unique to anime, but not romcoms?

It's more that the genre is boring enough to me that even what little elements unique to anime that they do have doesn't really make up for the fact that I find romcoms generally too boring to like.

Why call yourself a fan of media when you hate 99.9% of the media?

I don't hate nearly that much, romcoms are more of a plurality of anime rather than majority.

golden kamuy

That's like saying Gintama, is not really REALLY about guys being gay.

The distinction exists not as a status symbol but for utility.
A non-fan’s opinion about something is usually worth very little. “It was shit” ok that’s nice.

You are a otaku in denial.

Otaku are shit. Just read & watch what you like.

That's fair, just as long as it's not everything, at some point or another it comes down to preferences.

I don't know about the rest of you but back in the late 2000's from what I recall, hardcore fans who weren't weeaboos generally would not refer to themselves as otaku.

All time periods too. Pre-Tetsuwan Atom is forgivable.
