Original title is 社長. This is shacho, which apparently means president, chief, director. The distinction between it and kaicho (会長) which also translates to those terms is apparently somewhat nebulous. In some places, the 社長 is the acting president as in the person currently in charge while the 会長 can come and go as he pleases and includes retirees.

We have a name now. Also, the company's name is "堕魔死神カンパニー" which is Damashigami Company with カンパニー being "kanpani", a loan word from English for the same thing.

In regards to the name, VIZ actually has a translation note:
"When Rinne's father introduces himself, he says his name is "Sabato Rokudo." In kanji, it's written like this: 「六道鯖人」. Saba(鯖)means "mackerel" and to(人) in this case means "person." To put it another way, "Mackerel Man."You may also recall that Rinne's grandfather was reborn as a mackerel (see volume 1, chapter 6)."

And here's Furinkan's note for the same thing:
"六道鯖人

Sabato (鯖人) is written with the kanji for "mackerel" and "man". This is because his father, a human, died and was eventually reincarnated as a mackerel. His last name, Rokudo (六道), is the word for the six realms of existence in the Buddhist religion."

Here's some notes from Furinkan.

"Tatami mats - We have seen Rinne's "home" (the abandoned club room) a number of times in the series. Rinne has placed two tatami mats down near the wall so that he can sleep and sit there. It would be rather unusual and quite shoddy to have two tatami mats randomly in a room like this. Typically an entire bedroom's floor is covered in tatami mats but Rinne cannot afford this so he has placed two mats randomly in the room.

Japanese use tatami mats as a way of measuring rooms as well. A "six mat room" is standard sized, while "four and a half mats" would be considered small. A very large room would be "eight to ten tatami mats" (however this is the average size of a western bedroom). "Jo" (畳) is the unit for the number of tatami."

VIZ has a cultural note here: "Rinne catches Sabato up to no good. Sabato is wearing a hokkamuri, which is a visual cue that someone is a thief or burglar in Japan. Modern thieves don't really wear this anymore."

It is written as 頬っ被り. Also, I love Rinne's reaction here.

Oh hey, I do actually get the attack name's characters. The original title for this chapter was 吸血火車 or kyuketsukasha. The term is translated correctly by VIZ but it can also be translated as "vampire flaming chariot", I guess.

Also, Furinkan notes that Rin-ne didn't appear in the issue after this for some reason. I guess Rumiko took a break for the holidays even though Shonen Sunday didn't? Not sure. Anyway, that's why the next chapter's dates are later.

The sound effect translated as "zonk" was きゅう。or kyuu which the Japanese-to-English SFX library thing translates as "squeeze".

Oh hey it's one of those roller things they would throw or break all the time in Ranma. Naturally there weren't any in Inuyasha.

This spread reminds me of Urusei Yatsura. We got a monkey with a vest costume, a tanuki costume, a kappa costume and a scarecrow with the henohenomoheji face. Oh and I looked this up and now I know the name of the headdress with the lion mask with square teeth. It is part of the shishi-mai (獅子舞) where a performer wears a shishi-gashira or lion's head. I got this from Japanese Buddhist Statuary photo dictionary.

Yes, Inuyasha is done. I like both Rin-ne and Mao (though for different reasons). Unknown.

Rumiko's art style devolved after Ranma, and kinda looks like those "how to draw manga" books of the early 2000s. I think Mao looks especially plain.

The original Japanese title was 手形. This does literally mean handprint, but it also means a bill, draft, promissory note, etc.

"Here, Sakura says, "Sa...Ba... To...three...eight...ten." In Japanese, you can use the words for numbers to form parts of words, in this case sa (from san = 3), ba (from hachi = 8) and to (from to-o = 10). So we get "3, 8, 10" (or 1 and 0)."

This sort of wordplay is common for mnemonic devices in Japanese but it is pretty unwise to use your own name for it.

The term localized as "low-life" was 外道 which is apparently "non-buddhist" and heretic originally but now just means "demon, fiend, brute, bad person, etc.".

Original title was イヤじゃないのか. Machine translation is giving something similar, but not quite the same, but I assume in context this is correct.

if a business is a kaisha/会社 it usually has a shacho/社長 at the top, if it's a something-会/kai, it has a kaicho/会長

-会 is association/board, like 生徒会/seitokai is the school/student counsel which has a kaicho

The title was not slanted in the Japanese original. I guess VIZ was having fun.

Also, Furinkan notes that the next two issues following the release of this chapter did not feature Rin-ne. I do not know why this is the case. But that explains the date discrepancies. Maybe Rumiko Takahashi simply decided to take more breaks as she grew older.

February 3rd, 2010. Author's note:
"Q: If you could be reborn as an animal, what sort of animal would you like to be?
A: A house cat in a rich home."

Oh, Furinkan actually has a note regarding the flowers this time. I know remember where I saw that image of the poor English family making them. It was this note.

"Flower making - Rinne is frequently shown making silk flowers by the boxload. Historically this has been considered a job for the poorest of the poor, something they could do from home and then sell to a distributor."

They then link an article and a photo. They're sad, so I don't really feel like posting them after the dump.
