Gunko was the princess of the royal family that replaced the Nerona clan and whatever the name of that kingdom was, it was the kingdom that Brook served as the leader of the battle convoy that he mentioned back in Thriller Bark. Just taking a stab at it.

Speaking of stabs, Scopper seeing Colon's death and giving up was rough. Good dad though, and he showed out big time slicing up Sommers. Any certain kingdom in the West Blue that happens to be the single most important location lore-wise outside of the Grand Line?). I believe Brook was the military head of God Valley and Gunko was the princess (Brook would be the Pell/Igaram to Gunko’s Vivi). First, the panel of Gunko’s flashback where she’s screaming for her father is separated from the panel where Brook is telling her about his dream to become a pirate. I think they are separate moments. And Gunko looks older in the first panel than the one with Brook. Further, Colon screaming for his father only sparked her memory, and when she called for Brook before she got possessed by Imu she just called him “Brook,” not “Dad.” Further, it seemed that Brook was in disbelief about who Gunko was but I would imagine he would be a bit more certain about his own daughter than the daughter of the king he served over half a century ago (even if he was close to his family).

Brook is 90 years old and by 52 years ago, he was a member of the Rumbar Pirates. God Valley was 38 years ago. I believe she’s screaming out for her father, the King, who was killed by Garling during the manhunt. Brook likely has no knowledge of what happened to his former kingdom since his soul was isolated in the Florian Triangle for 50 years and that God Valley was an unknown even to top-ranking Marines. For whatever reason Gunko was spared from the human hunt and was kidnapped by the CD, and somehow rose the ranks despite not being a CD herself (when we’re introduced to the Holy Knights, we meet SAINT Sommers and SAINT Qilingham but not SAINT Gunko, implying she isn’t a full CD). We still need to see why she got immortality, since Garling clearly aged since God Valley vs. Gunko who would be in her 50s or 60s. Colon screaming for his dad brought the memory up because she wishes Brook had still been there to there to protect them.

After having her memories, Gunko calls Brook by his name, which would be kind of unexpected if she just remembered he was her father.

She uses the term "otou-sama", which is a very formal way to call your father, usually used among nobility (that's how Shirahoshi calls her father). Brook is a former member of a convoy army, there's no reason to assume he'd have that level of formality with his family. Brook does speak politely however, but "otou-san" is already respectful enough in a polite setting

So it's purely a Devil fruit thing. And Kekdo has the audacity to say DFs don't matter.

Both are valiant, peak examples of giant warriors who long to fall in combat. What better opportunity for that than the series' Biggest Bad? So I guess this is how it goes now, chopper saves gyaban maybe using that fluffy big ball Guard point. Gyaban tells how to decapitate God's knights. Hopefully they fall somewhere near where luffy is in the underworld. Luffy and the gang save the day using this info while chopper tends to gyaban.

Bonus - they hopefully take Gunko back out of Imu's control, although her staying on villain's side in controlled state would be good setup for final war/arc.

Eventually Gunko was captured or presumed dead and Brooks then went into piracy, bringing us to the present reunion. This fits One Piece's theme of family by blood or by choice. Brooks isn't Gunkos father but became one, just as Dadan isn't Luffy or Ace's biological mother but became their mother, their chosen family. Luffy's biological father is Dragon but he has chosen Shanks as his father figure, so on and so forth. Brooks isn't gunko's biological father but became a father figure to her after her family's death. It's possible they met each other during Brooks time as a pirate, but that would leave less connection to the foreshadowed battle convoy of "a certain Kingdom" which I think will be a key detail in Brooks and Gunko's story.
