In a lot of series with "Hero" characters that aren't the MC, Hero-kun serves as a foil to the MC and as a way to take cheap shots at all the MC tropes that the author hates. So while they may not hate the isekai genre as a whole they still clearly dislike some common renditions of it.

It's only when it's used for comedy that I hate it, like that manga about the knight that reddit loves. I think self-awareness can be used in intersting wars if it's used for more serious situation. Being a school setting is neither good no bad, because there's a clear order of events that has been outlined, so the author can't just spin their wheels. Most of the time in isekai stories the school setting is just a diversion from any meaningful plot progression, but in EASG it's literally just a setting and progression is happening. It's flat out wrong to say the school setting is being used as a crutch in EASG.

HOWEVER I'm not really a fan of stories where the protagonist has foreknowledge of future events, it makes them too guarded and their interactions too manipulative. I prefer protagonists who live in the moment and use their wits to navigate through problems as they happen. That's the problem with a lot of Korean Isekai, they lack the sense of adventure when the protag acts like he's following a guide for a platinum trophy.

I found the webnovel boring. MC just stays innawoods until the plot forces him into action. It's also an academy setting but we barely see him attend lessons and interact with other student/teachers that aren't part of the harem.
Now that I think about it, the MC is the main issue. Too reactive and keeps sticking to 'the storyline'. Fairly emotionless too, I don't think he ever got angry at being treated like shit for things he didn't do or at the assassination attempts.

Ed was already losing his foreknowledge very early on within the first 5 chapters when he built that forest in the hut. The butterfly effect was too great, he was already needing to wing it during the battle with Janica in the first arc.
