Fairy Tail's biggest flaw is that the setting doesn't have anything resembling a coherent power system with limits.
Most shonen bend the rules, but they at least make some effort to explain how things got there and they make a big deal out of it when it happens. In a standard big Fairy Tail fight where the protagonists are the underdogs, Fairy Tail characters just start yelling about FAIRY TAIL MADOSHI and suddenly the rules no longer apply and massive power gaps are completely closed. Fairy Tail even makes fun of itself with the "because she's Erza" panel, where there's no logical explanation for why Erza is able to fight back and Mashima has no intention of trying to explain.

For me, fairy tail was the anime that seriously got me into anime. It's thanks to it that I got into the community and started my journey.
Growing up a bit more, I came to realize how flawed it is but I could never hate it. It just became a guilty pleasure for. I loved it but I was a bit ashamed of it. Now I don't care anymore.
