You can't recognize above-average great writing, it is necessary because it creates emotional attachments to the characters and creates kino build up to the thriller shit in the second half.

It's a good anime, but Anon Babble developed a kneejerk reaction to it over the years because many forums proclaim it as one of the best series ever in a hyperbolic manner
Also, I have the feeling that Okabe's behavior gives secondhand embarrassment to many anons because they may have acted like him in their puberty years. There are after all a lot of autists here

The first half of the show is a quirky SoL where we’re meant to be endeared to the characters, and I never got all that endeared, outside of Mayuri which is comical levels of sympathy bait, but okay, it works. Second half wakes up and the plot is enough to keep you awake. I think it’s the definition of middle of the road, fine. Aesthetics? Fine. Characters? Fine. Plot? Fine. Ending? Fine. Humor? Fine. etc. etc.
I can’t for the life of me figure out what about this makes people see 10/10.

I noticed while browsing alts during the outage that S;G and Chaos; series are very popular on them. I saw a number of posts, threads, and even banners with them.
Which just reinforces my opinion that Anon Babble has always loved Sci;Adv and it's just newfag tourists who don't

My only guess is it feels like a 2005 show which was refreshing in 2011. It balances otaku and not otaku in an interesting way, westoids like more grown up characters, and the plot kicking in halfway through is good recommendation bait for plotfags who would never sit with that much character work otherwise. The hook is solid and it lands the plane.

Those series weren't as influential because they didn't expand on the concept of time travel at all. Meanwhile YU-NO went VERY in-depth with the whole thing, and Steins;gate picked up after it, introducing more familiar terms like worldlines.

The VN is my favorite piece of media ever created behind Bruckner's 9th. But the anime is extraordinarily mediocre and cuts out 99% of what made the VN fun. I can understand why people dislike it if all they've seen was the anime. I remember quitting it after 3 episodes when trying to watch it, then enjoying the VN greatly after my friend nagged me to play it.
