Machu is sort of a textbook protagonist, so it went relatively smoothly with her. In the first episode, she’s introduced as a regular girl living her simple, daily life, and then, all of a sudden, she sneaks inside of a Mobile Suit. It might seem like she’s a bit reckless and eccentric… but in my interpretation, the most unique trait of Machu’s personality is that she doesn’t have prejudices.

But not Machu, she’d just go ask for the “compensation for her broken smartphone” or something. This is to say, Machu basically considers Nyaan to be her equal. In this sense, inside that Side 6, she’s certainly a peculiar girl.

You'll start to see the gradual frustration building in him throughout the series as he tries and fails to get through to people; and the most infuriating of the lot is Amuro who ultimately DOES get it, but refuses Char's point of view because he thinks Char is too impatient and has an extremely warped savior complex. It's why CCA is always the inevitable--Char's pride got him this far, and it's very much his coffin too by the end.

Amuro was just not expecting the last thing Char would scream about was being overtly blunt and non-specific about Lalah in the end. I'm sure that was one hell of a conversation after they went to the other side.

I'm caught up on the episodes and feel that the pacing doesn't help the show. If it's true that this TV Gundam series only has 12 episodes, we might already be seeing cause for concern as opposed to an unsteady start. Off-screening two of Machu's Clan Battles and barely showing another is too abridged and loses the sense of a daily routine, of getting to know people and having some fun in the calm before the storm. The ED is trying to convey something like that, but it feels like Machu hasn't even built a rapport with Nyaan in the show itself yet, and the pacing is shooting past a natural time to build one.

The Witch is a character who didn't exist in 0079 or other UC works, so there's no previous attachment being brought in to try offsetting the fact that she was rapidly introduced and killed in the same episode. We didn't get enough time to explore her trauma and how it was weighed against her family, how she processed the apparent revelation that the red Gundam's pilot is now just a destitute kid with no link to Char, etc. Her Mav she wanted to avenge didn't even get a name, face, or line. The pacing didn't provide time to show enough, and the events in the episode already feel like a spike to blow past the ED's tone.

In the second full Clan Battle we've seen, one episode after the first, Zeon witnesses Shuji go full Newtype and Machu sees him outright kill someone even when he had the Newtype powers and skills to avoid that. These suits are less prone to exploding than 0079 ones too, otherwise there would be casualties in the first Clan Battle. This feels like the moment when shit hits the fan, when it's clear that Machu has entered something terrible and the alarms are sounding for Zeon to start Act 2. Instead, the preview dialogue and title don't reflect the stakes, and I hope this doesn't repeat WfM's fixation on the school that left elements underexplored and rushed the ending.

It really isn't. Being newtype autistic means you're a threat to yourself and others and shouldn't get to have the same luxuries as people. That's been the case time and time again.

Gundam's had this problem with being really self referential for a long LONG time. I don't know why I thought I could watch a literal alternate timeline Gundam and not roll my eyes out of their sockets. It's still a nice enough show but fuck me sometimes I need them to dial it down.

When you think about it, the Witch was a reference to the original Challia Bull. And you might get that impression from the PV, but those are the Black TriStars. I wouldn't be surprised if Zeon sent them to destroy the Red Gundam. The MPs also seems to be taking shit more seriously.

Nah, it's great. The UC mainline series and setting is the only one that matter regardless and it's been too long, I think the Halfaway movie, since we've gotten anything.

Tem Ray showed up for a bit in episode 2 and didn't get spaced since Char didn't blow a hole in the colony, so assuming Tem didn't get killed maybe he and Amuro are off working on a father son engineering project to kill the Zeons.

Because you're going to have to watch Zeta, ZZ, and Char's Counterattack as well. Or at the minimum Char's Counterattack since it's already had some light references despite it being set in US 0093 while GQuuuuuuX is in the alt-0085.

The original Chalia Bull showed up nearly 40 episodes into 0079, when the humanity of every character, even minor ones, was already well-explored, and the point was how Char will even send a fellow Newtype to pointlessly fight and be killed by Amuro. The writers had also been told to speed things up by then, so Chalia Bull probably wouldn't have been killed in the same episode he was introduced.

Here, a character is introduced like they're part of the "what-if" UC side of things even though we know they clearly didn't exist in other shows, and everything about them is sped through even though this is supposed to be some kind of important moment for Machu and the others, whereas Chalia Bull himself had no major change to the tone or meaning beyond how Char doesn't really have Newtype camaraderie, and that was obvious in their first meeting.

Also, why would the MPs be sent to handle the matter first? This is OYW Zeon, and a victorious OYW Zeon in particular, meaning they'd only be further emboldened. What 0079 shows us suggests that Zeeks would be swooping in or trying to gas the colony and loot the Gundam in the aftermath. This tone for the next episode's preview where it might just be Side 6's MPs and the focus is whether Nyaan is a Newtype doesn't feel like it sits right with the dystopian what-if to the already ruthless OYW.

Now keep in mind that this show's Newtypes are led by Char. They're up a creek and have no paddles.

Why is that a problem? That's literally her characterization you're just too dense to get it and so you think "pacing" is a problem. The tension with her character is that she's not reciprocating with Machu and has that seed of betrayal, she's a wild card due to the desperation of her position as a refugee. Like there's no need to show more of the fodder clan battles because the only important point is Machu attuning to the gqux. It's not really trying to give a feeling of slice of life routine so there's no reason to create a bunch of filler matches. It's only necessary to understand through small scenes like Machu at home with her mom that there is a contradiction in her life, which is fully spelled out for the viewer with her mom's "I know your secret" misdirect moment.

This is just a silly way to look at things that inflates narratives beyond what they need. GQX has great pacing so far, only really wonky in episode 2 with all the extra details that had to be cut from the theatrical version. The show has been very effective with its information delivery and characterization while finding time for little bits of candy like Machu teasing the dog.

In the sequence this comes from, she leaps with the colony interior in the background, lands on Earth with the other two, then there's the cut to the launch where she's alone. The Akai Gundam appears when the background shifts back to the colony interior. Shuji won't be a villain, he'll be the one she's chasing to Earth and joining the Sodon to get there. If Nyaan tags along with Machu on the Sodon, that explains the emphasis on the two of them in the ED.
