Hemlock isn't a reliable narrator on this, but Yor implied the same herself back during the cruise arc.

I figured Hemlock and Yor were going to fight, but I thought it would be late in the arc, not the second chapter. So much for that being the core conflict.

I notice that Axeman is hiding Hemlock's thoughts. The longer this continues, the more likely it is that Loid and Anya will meet him at the end so Anya can spill the beans to the readers. I can't imagine Axeman keeping this secret beyond this arc unless it has serious implications.

The most realistic ending is that they leave for good to go into hiding, but leaving everyone else behind forever is probably a little too sad for a healing manga.

It sounds like expectations are different for someone in McMahon's "manager" role. That he worded it as "they don't discuss his work" would imply she does know to some degree what his work is, but has agreed to not pry for any specific information.
