Rose of Sharon, a mysterious test subject hidden under Luna 2, causes a mysterious reaction with the Red Gundam, which triggers a weird explosion that ruins the Federation's plans and wins the war for Zeon, Char and the Red Gundam disappear
although Zeon won the war, Gihren and Kycilia never got along, they're both ambitious and aiming to become the big boss of Zeon; Gihren seems to have the title of Supreme Ruler, but Kycilia is in control of Luna 2 and seems to have her own faction of supporters
the conflict between Kycilia and Gihren is escalating, rumors are going around that Zeon might go to war again, except this time it would be a civil war
Side 6 currently favors Gihren, but Kycilia is looking to ally herself with a manufacturing company called One Naval, which at least in terms of warships is comparable to Zeonic and Anaheim
at the same time, Challia, who became obsessed with Char and his ideals, has been looking for the Red Gundam after its disappearance, it arrives at the Izuna colony in Side 6 because of reports of its most recent sighting, he feels is the real Red Gundam because of his Newtype powers
Challia was lent an experimental Gundam codenamed GQuuuuuux, he brought Xavier, a top graduate of the Flaganan Institute, to pilot it
the GQX confronts the Red Gundam, but Xavier is unable to activate the Omega Psycommu system, which seems to have been created as an evolution of the Alpha Psycommu installed in the Red Gundam
Xavier is actually a spy sent by Kycilia to keep an eye on Challia Bull, who they don't trust because he is supposed to be working for both Gihren (direct subordinate) and Kycilia (part of Kycilia's Newtype corps)

Machu gets involved with Nyaan and they both arrive at the Pomeranian's headquarters since Nyaan was smugling a MS piece for them; they're a poor group of Clan Battlers, which is a deadly extreme sport in which MS fight each other
I'm not gonna summarize the parts of the plot everyone can understand, Xavier kinda fucks up the Red Gundam but gets fucked in return, the Military Police arrives to fuck shit up, Machu ends up in the GQX and activates the Omega Psycommu
as the story progresses it becomes obvious that Challia has his own agenda; it's suspected that he let the GQX get captured on purpose, and at the very least he is delaying retrieving it along with the Red Gundam, this is partially because the Red Gundam hunt is a front to protect Kycilia's secret meeting with the leader of One Naval, but there seems to be more to it as it relates to Challia's mystery keikaku
Challia is intentionally sending Xavier out to keep him out of the way, because he probably knows that Xavier is a spy sent to keep tabs on him, but at the same time it's not like he dislikes Xavier, more on this later
Challia is interested in Machu, and later also in Nyaan, as pilots of the GQX that managed to activate the Omega Psycommu, he distinguished them even if nobody else noticed that Machu didn't pilot it in episode 5
it's implied that Challia has been pulling the strings to make things harder for the Pomeranians, not out of a desire to sabotage them, but to push the GQX's pilot further, like "where did CRS get Gelgoogs if they aren't legally on sale yet?" the answer is likely "from Challia"

the Titans are led by Bask Ohm, who basically absolutely fucking despises Spacenoids, he probably doesn't mind causing collateral damage if it means fucking up Kycilia
just gonna go over the main characters' in general terms, but Machu has felt that her life is a lie, partially because she lives in an artificial colony, partially because she feels that her peaceful life is fake because she sees the MPs beat up refugees all the time, partially as part of a normal adolescent ennui, but also because she can't instinctively tell everything is false aka they're just waiting for the next war to start; when Machu awakened as a Newtype and experienced kirakira it's like she saw the real world for the first time in her life
Machu is supposed to be bratty, but she isn't supposed to be strictly in the wrong; her reaction to Nyaan piloting the GQX was bitchy, but she knows it was bitchy; and like the adults in her life are supposed to sound "sensible" and the show doesn't condemn them, but they also don't understand Machu and aren't exactly in the right either
Anki aka the leader of the Pomeranians is a former Zeon something, she recognized the Omega Psycommu in the GQX, she knows shit is about to get real and wants to sell out the Red Gundam and return the GQX; I don't think she is purely selfish here, she wants money and to protect her team, but I think she also wants to force Machu back into a normal life, although that's kinda impossible for reasons beyond their control

Nyaan lived a life opposite to Machu, she has always been "in the real world", she ran away from a warzone as a refugee and has had to keep her head down or endure punishment in order to survive; she wants to find her family, and she also wants to get an education, but everyone has always told her that these are just dreams she isn't supposed to fulfill due to her status; she probably has a more fierce side that she keeps bottled up inside because it's easier to be quiet and demure, but piloting the Gundam and awakening as Newtype made her feel "freedom" for the firsttime in her life; she appreciates Machu as a friend and maybe has a bit of a crush on Shuji
Shuuji is a mysterious character that has his own agenda and is not willing to abandon his objective, he already spoke about how he only wants one thing and one thing only; I don't think he dislikes Machu and Nyaan, but he is more than willing to leave them behind for the sake of getting what he wants
and going back to Challia Bull, the guy is basically in love with Char and wants to fulfill his ideas, he believes in Newtypes more than anyone else, that's why he won't just kill Xavier to get him off his ass, and why he is curious about Machu and Nyaan, although he also wants to use them as part of his plan; honestly, personally I think he is one of the show's primary antagonists, but closer to Char in MGS than to Paptimus in Zeta; I wouldn't be surprised if they're bringing back the Challia from Gunboy, who represented the "espers" (Newtypes before Tomino decided on the name) and believed that war was necessary for humanity to evolve; GQX Challia might want to trigger another full on war between Kycilia and Gihren and maybe even drag the Federation into it as well, why? because it would be easier to get rid of the Zabi family that way, and to force humanity into evolve into Newtypes and bring forth the ideal world of Newtypes Char told him about

anyway, now everything that has been set up is about to blow up; the table has been set, giving a rough political explanation of why the stuff that has been happened has happened, and we're about to get a better view at what Challia has in mind; he knows about the Psycho Gundam, and he specifically wanted it to fight the GQX and the Red Gundam, he also asked to get back his not-Braw Bow expecting something big to happen

Why does the Gundam totally change the design philosophies of who ever owns it?
From an engineering standpoint, it sort of make sense. Imagine having to design a plane with nothing to reference on, each engineering team goes on to make thier own plane with their own philosophy leading to some planes with propeller, some with 4 engines, and some with those shitty Wright brothers biplane wings. Now the federation saw all those design, took all the good parts and made the F-15.
In the main time, by the time zeon sort out standards between different designs (and all their internal politics/strife) and come up with their own f-15, it was already couple weeks before A Bao Qu.
In Gquuuuuux, Zeon got the YF-15A early, universally agreed that all their designs are shit, and decided to basically copy it.

Then again I think it's a good choice to make a 12 episode show more self contained and use the world scale for the stakes of the climax instead of diluting the show too quickly with a bigger scale from the start. The antags also make for a nice, pertinent gallery of characters that show what the world is like.

If the Psycho Gundam is firing the beams inside the colony, those beams will be hitting part of the colony. Beams hitting colonies put enormous holes in the colonies that cause the vacuum of space to devastate said colonies. The Psycho Gundam specializes in firing tons of beams in tons of directions.

We see the shell casings hitting people in several iterations and in Hathaway's Flash even those plasma bits from the sparks that fly off beam sabers are melting metal and shit. The fight in the next episode is gonna be fucking horrifying from the PoV of a civilian. Maybe getting vaporized from a colony landing on you doesn't sound so bad compared to getting maimed/disfigured/killed by the aforementioned.

The ED serves as a contrast to the tensions, mecha brutality, and traumas to come. Strikingly, the Gundam does not appear once.

In GQuX, the focus is purely on the female leads, because GQuX is tilted way towards character focus than action, and I think that's why many are upset. It doesn't feel like a traditional Gundam series.

I remember joking with friends that Fa spends each ED literally running through space trying to catch up with Kamille. She basically disappears from the show when he joins the AEUG. It made things funny when she shows up again at last in episode 18 or so and even brings Kamille the Zeta Gundam.

I think GQuX has one of the best Gundam endings. It's so unique, visually striking, and catchy. Most other Gundam endings seem to really be by the numbers ballads superimposed against images of war and space. Gundam X was the worst as it was literally a slideshow of space images.

This is kind of why I think the whole won’t be destroyed and tons of people won’t die next episode only a few at most. With this series being more drama focused it makes less sense to kill off everyone. Obviously isn’t not like Gundam didn’t have character focuses in other stories but they all have much larger cast then Gquuuuuux so they could kill off more people or introduce villains to die every few episodes. Machu can’t have a rebellion of everyone she knows is dead.

As for the rest of Beyond the Time, I can feel Nyaan and Shuji connect on a deep emotional level as I observe Beyond the Time as well.

I would argue that they were more evil than Zeon. ZAFT were pretty reasonable for the most part, whereas the Earth Alliance were a genocidal psuedo-theocracy. In fact, ZAFT had the opportunity to colony drop the Earth early on, but decided not to because it was too horrific for them. ZAFT only became evil because they were radicalized by EA actions and rhetoric against them. Unlike the EA, ZAFT is actually competent and can do unto the EA what the EA had been trying to do to them.
Furthermore, in Destiny, ZAFT are the good guy faction, even if they have some bad elements (like Durandal), whereas the EA are pretty much stupider and eviler Titans, for the most part.

I think it's clear they're setting things up for Machu to not face direct consequences for her actions over the last two episodes:

When Challia asks who is piloting the Qquacks, he's only informed that it was a "young lady."
It seems like Nyaan is set up to take the fall for all this, which will probably spur on the latter half of the show. I think if that's the case, nuking the entire colony isn't that likely since Machu will need a place to go after she's passed over for her overdue punishment, and she'll likely be wracked with guilt about the entire thing. So I don't think they'll destroy everything for themes, but I don't see much hope for a non-downer ending. Bittersweet is the best you can expect.
