Most VN adaptations are especially cursed. The only two I've seen done even semi well are Steins;Gate and Atri.

Steins;Gate is just an okay adaptation of a mediocre visual novel, it's highly rated because muh time travel and the characters being channers.

Literally everything else in the series being a flop convinced me that the writer was always a hack. He was lucky that Steins;Gate ended up being so loved, i don't think it even has anything to do with the writing quality as much as certain elements in the vn being very attractive to people and elevating a pretty unremarkable story.

The fame came from the anime not the VN.
Giving Robotics;Notes more episodes than C;C is the most dumbest thing he did. And putting C;C as Xbox One exclusive too.
