What does it mean that their "base shipping fee" is $18 USD now? Is that just the starting point for Nendos and other small stuff and it only goes up from there? Also, it seems you can't order in Yen anymore, only USD? That seems like it should be a disadvantage, but then the USD price for a figure I want pre-order appears to be lower than what you'd pay according to the current Yen-USD exchange rate. What's the catch? Would you recommend or caution against ordering from Goodsmile vs 2nd party shops like AmiAmi?

I don't think picking a certain shipping method would change it since you can pick again once they send a payment request. For estimates I assume they just take the weight and find the closest box size without actually packing it up into the correct box with a whole tree's worth of paper.

That's something you really need to shop around for yourself to find someone with a style you like who preferably knows how to part out a model GK style. Then you'd have to find someone else to print and paint it, which again you would have to shop around for to find someone with a painting style you like.
