Chapters that read differently now

Sakura family gets lend a house on vacations so they can pass some days away from home

She meets this Chad ojiisan who's the neighbor and starts spending some time hanging out with him

Strange vibe as you see this ojiisan obviously interested on Sakura while nobody else bats an eye and think is weird

In the end, it is revealed he was secretly Sakura grandfather (on her mother side)

funnily enough, the ojiisan only was interested in meeting with Sakura and not Toya, who looks more like his father

Any old anime episode/manga chapter you feel that aged badly or just gets interpreted differently now in our current age?

I hate westoid hate culture.

I have no idea what you're even asking. How is meeting your grandpa for the first time different now vs. then?

what?

It was her great-grandpa.

Stranger danger!

what?

oh i get it now
you are a coombrain

Because they're scared.

how is it different, it's known that grandparents as opposed to direct parents spoil their grandkids

He never says he is her great-grampa.
To Sakura he was just some random old man that was nice to her.
And curiously, he gave a fuck about Toya that is also his great-grandson

in her pov it was a complete good deed because he's a stranger to her, knowing he is her grandpa will diminish his good will as yet another close relative

because whites act on their pedophile impulses while asians have healthy outlets like drawing

Thanks Miura

that was quite an episode

Takes your daughter as an underage school girl

escape with her

She dies years later.

I would be mad too

I know this didn't land with most anons, but OP I do get what you were getting at here.
There was intentionally a mysterious vibe with this episode (obviously, as his identity was kept secret from the audience until the end) and I do agree that it can read differently today.
This episode stands out in my mind but I actually got this feeling with a lot of CC episodes. The tone of this show is so wholesome and sweet that it really made me realise how miserable and mean-spirited a lot of modern media is. I often get a feeling of unease watching an episode only to later realise it was my own anticipation (dread) that a character was going to do/say something casually cruel being subverted.
A lot of modern media is casually mean or cynical. Often summed up as irony poisoning.
The best example I think of that shows that contrast is S1 vs S2 of kemono friends.
Also I hate to say it but a lot of people missing the "implications" really just comes off as media illiteracy...

I'll ad that while I stand by what I said, OP's example episode in particular might be hitting on a cultural level because the episode plays out almost beat for beat like a lot of the "stranger danger" PSAs we got in the west.
To the point that I wonder if this episode was even included in the butchered western tv release?

Decades of jewish conditioning to prevent western people from building healthy relationships.
Relationships nowadays are so mired in so many layers of bullshit it's impossible for people to not be demented about it.

I don't think 99% of a country can be considered "coombrains".

Pretty much,
The chapter was weird, yes, but it was only because of the mistery as you said. Only in these age one would assume the worst

The best example I think of that shows that contrast is S1 vs S2 of kemono friends.

I'm curious about that anon,
I read the company behind the series changes and the series became kind of soulless not sure if that's what you are hinting at? I don't remember the details

There was a lot of drama behind the scenes and way too much to explain in a post. What is relevant is that basically S1 has a tone much like CC (sweet, wholesome, optimistic) but S2 is starkly different with a more modern tone (callus, mean spirited, and cynical).
If you just made a bullet point list of the plot of each season they'd be basically the same but the experience of watching them is night and day.

How is meeting your grandpa for the first time different now vs. then?

Because I can't meet grandpa anymore :'C

Fucking chinaboy I would rip you to pieces if I were younge

Lol his face in the first panel
You can almost ready his thoughts about Syaoran

That's what I like about CCS. The show's full of sincerity, which modern media severely lacks. We're living in an age of post-irony and subversion, so watching an 'honest' show like CCS was quite a special experience for me.

I know this didn't land with most anons

I consider it the best episode of the whole series and to me it exemplifies everything that elevates CSS above most other anime. But I get how some people might have trouble "getting" it because there's a lot of layers to it, as is common with most relationships in the show

Cute retard

healthy

Didn't that dude copy the drawings instructions and rape a loli while pretending to be a home inspector?

subversion

CLAMP seems to be wanting to go in the “deconstructive Magical Girl” trend with Clear Card though, Clear Card was implying that Sakura being the most powerful mage to ever exist is a bad thing, and she can’t control her overwhelming powers…

He looks like he's in his 60s, and he's already a great grandfather? Does Sakura's entire family just have children at 15?

That's an intersting premise and has little to do with subversion. Clow also struggled his whole life because of his overwhelming magical ability. So why shouldn't the successor of his power struggle too?

watching an 'honest' show like CCS was quite a special experience for me.

Yeah definitely agree with you there.
Not to be faggy and blogpost but watching ccs is very refreshing. It was almost jarring realising how acclimatised I'd gotten irony poisoned modern stuff. >frog in a pot slowly brought up to boiling.webm
To bring it back to OP's point, I feel like there probably are a lot of old shows, especially slice of life stuff, that would give that feeling if we went back and watched them now.
Acknowledging of course that there was a lot of callous casual violence crap in the genres like rom-com basically since it started

This is why I can’t take people seriously when they want to put CCS in the same childish Kodomo category as Precure or 90’s Sailor Moon, CCS touches on inherently adult and mature subject matters with a quiet introspective and subtle flair that you would NEVER see in an actual Kodomo that rarely if ever takes itself seriously.

The topic of family estrangement and disputes is way too heavy a subject matter for Bandai Sponsored toyetic slop.

This is why CCS and CLAMP in general mogs all Toei Mahou Shoujo.

Sailor Moon mogs the shit out of Fedcaptor Sakura though. It's funnier, more consistently entertaining, and has more going for it than bland moe slice of life for lolicons to wank over

anon, Sakura's mom was a student of her father and this was the main reason that her friend (Tomoyo's Mom) and her part of the family despises him, what do you think?

The guy posts the exact same bait in nearly every CCS threads. Do not engage with him.

CCS

for lolicons

It was originally targeted towards fujos and a teen girl shoujo audience though…

Smelly otaku incels simply colonized what was originally meant to be an all-girl space that wasn’t for them, like they always do.

Sailor Moon has lolis too in the forms of Chibi-Usa and Saturn by the way.

The only thing making you feel this way is your retard brain that has the ingrained "new = bad" mentality that intsantly poisons new shows from within. New shows are fine. Old shows are fine too. You can only enjoy old shows because youre mentally crippled.

"new = bad"

Very true! I didn't read the rest of your post btw.

irony poisoned modern stuff

Care to list some examples? I can't really think of any modern anime I have watched that I would describe as "irony poisoned."

I think people would be nicer if they watched more shows filled with nice characters, like the ghibli movies

As I said in an earlier post, Kemono Friends S1 vs S2 is the best way to A/B test that. The first season really captures the tone of wholesomeness like CCS while the second season is soulless and casually mean (think like how capeshit or transformers movies replace friendly banter with people just being dicks to eachother)
I generally drop anything if I get a whif of that kind of tone so I can't give you a list but I'm sure most isekai slop would fit the bill.
So yeah, modern stuff can be sweet like CCS and some older series can be dickish, like the rom-com example I mentioned above so it isn't a strictly old good new bad dichotomy like some cantankerous fags itt suggest

I agree. You internalise that shit whether you realise it or not.

I'm a pedophile so everyone else must've though the same

That's an intersting premise and has little to do with subversion.

Because the Magical Girl genre played completely straight is unrealistic wish-fulfillment slop.

It’s the reason why isekai power fantasies and harems are also hated.

how much you wanna bet it's because of how different countries classify sexual assault? Japan is still in the 80s where you can slap a coworkers arse and she'll get sacked if she complains. meanwhile hellholes like Canada you can be convicted of rape for looking at a woman

I never watched Kemono Friends so I can't comment on that specific example, but the only anime I have watched and enjoyed in recent years (Christ, it was seven years ago) that strikes me as being cynical is Hinamatsuri, where almost every adult is a selfish asshole for the sake of comedy. Looking at the SoL I'm enjoying this season, Apocalypse Hotel, I wouldn't call it irony poisoned at all.

Doesn’t give a fuck about Toya

He disowned him for being a faggot, based Grandpa.

I considered picking that up this season but other shows have me picking at away at my back catalog this season too...
It's a tough thing to really put a finger on. I don't think I would have looked at any show on my watched list and said "yeah this is show was irony poisoned". I wasn't aware of it until I had something so powerfully wholesome as CCS to contrast it against.
My earlier example of KF S2 only sticks out so much because of the direct comparison to S1.
Remember too that if you naturally gravitate towards watching stuff that is on the sweet side (like I do) the difference is probably gonna be a lot more subtle to you
