This show could genuinely have been improved by giving Lena an Alba boyfriend. Make him, like, a handsome dude who pilots a Capitol Defense ace custom mecha or something, and at the end of S1 she has to choose between them.
That way, the situation is more nuanced. If she chooses Shin, the message is "If you're too nice to refugees, they'll take your woman." If she chooses her boyfriend, the message is: "Oh, I feel so bad for the poor refugees...But I'm not going to fuck one."
Bam. Instantly increasing the nuance of the story.
Also can you imagine how many girls would get wet over a noble silver-haired chad?

Anti-racism is such a no brainer that its intentionally used to make one side undeniably in the wrong. There's nothing deep to be said. That's exactly why its used. You'll have to look elsewhere for your justification of racism.

Cliche and eye-rolling depictions of racism have the racists be static evil and the victims of racism static good. This doesn’t do that.

How is this not a political story? It's literally talking about racism and refugees. It's like saying that Mobile Suit Gundam doesn't have a political element.

There aren't any other 'good Albas' besides Lena though. There isn't even a good reason why the Alba are racist.

For 86 the problem is it’s just way too moe and no captivating characters outside of Lena who’s undeniably a Sue-ish (I’m not like the other Albas!) moeblob. Also LNslop slow story structure doesn’t help either

Even if you believed this (you probably don't actually, it's only specific types of racism that bother you) you should still try to make that case with some nuance and intelligence. When you need to caricature the opposite side to the degree that your story becomes a farce, you're doing a bad job as a writer. When even SnK has a more thoughtful take on racism, you know you've fucked up.

Its the opposite. There are no named bad albas except that one general. Lena's dad was a saint. Lena's uncle recognized they were in the wrong and was content with letting it burn. He still ended up fighting for the 86 at the last moment. Annette chose to run away from the guilt and is given a chance to atone. Lev has given his life to the 86 to atone. Anju has only ever been the victim of racism. The remaining alba are either clueless or nameless drunkard goons that would be the bottom dregs of society even if racism wasn't in the story at all.

86 is really about upholding personal beliefs in dire situations. The "bad" alba aren't bad because they believe 86 are an inferior race. They are bad because they don't uphold what they believe to be right and choose to cope instead. Racism is just the low hanging fruit used to set the stage until we get acquainted with the characters.

The true takeaway from 86 is that long, white hair and a big ahoge is peak character design and instantly improves any work of fiction. Uncoincidentally, 86's story got worse the more Lena got sidelined
