I agree that Machu isn't exactly likeable, though not always do character, even protagonists, need be likeable in order to be good characters. Though I'm still unsure if GQX succeeds in this regard. Or if this show high on member berries is the right vehicle for thoughtful and meaningful character development.

What I mean is, in all those settings there's an ongoing war or conflict that is brewing. So their life eventually gets influenced by said conflict. Whereas Machu is in a post-war setting and has no justification for doing the stuff she's doing. She doesn't need the money from clan-battles and nobody knows her identity. Hell, she's not even needed as the pilot since Nyaan can pilot just as good as her. There's nothing stopping her from walking away from the trouble she put herself in. Whereas in all those Gundams I mentioned there's an ongoing war/conflict so they have to see it thorugh to the end.

In the most basic terms of character motivation, I really don't think most Gundams pass the sniff test. Most motivations are very, very shallow, even in the case where they are forced into war like Amuro. The White Base retard party that follows the first Zeon attack on Side 7 is extremely gimmicky, the infamous justification for Amuro piloting the RX-78 is still incredibly stupid. I don't think anyone should take Gundam too seriously, this really isn't a profound war story in any way, and I don't think it's unfair to say that it is mostly carried by camp.
Having said all that, I do agree with your dislike for Machu, even if I would caution you that her character still hasn't blossomed and we don't know where the show is going with her. Even if her initial impulse is relatively low stakes compared to other Gundams, I don't think it's fair to claim that this is necessarily bad. But I think there is enough indications that this is a very shallow show about girls orbiting around some twink murder hobo for no real reason other than "Newtypes are just that craaaaaazy :))".

I'd be surprised if nothing significant happens over the next two episodes given what we know already.
My headcannon is that since Tem didn't get Spaced he must've still had schematics and shit. So while they had to go off the guncannon due to urgency/it being readily available they could still make some Gundam based variants, they just weren't ready for OYW. Plus the guncannon already being in full production probably didn't net them as many resources so they could make Gundam stuff in a timely manner.
