Kycilia will blame Gihren for allowing murasame to sneak their HVAC into the side in order to kill her (remember they mentioned that it was odd because side 6 while neutral nominally leans more towards support of Gihren). Whether that assumption is true or not, this kicks of the rest of the plot with a Zeonic civil war.
Someone might want to go to earth to find Tem Ray/Amuro Ray who would've been the most likely candidates to build psycho gundam. In this AU its not reverse engineered from anything, its just a second crack at making the gundam (which had a psycom by default in this setting) by the original creator.
This show could be different but it'd be a major subversion. I don't see how things can go well when a psycho gundam is being let loose in a cylinder. Bask isn't the only one with plans either, Izuma is gonna be a hellscape even if named characters survive.
I'm not sure the narrative could possibly be satisfying without major shit going down. kira kira is just newtype shit, newtype shit is often about empathy and understanding. There needs to be stakes for those things to be important because who gives a shit about teenagers' interpersonal relationships and coming of age or whatever outside the context of bigger forces at play. It'd be very disappointing to throw out all the Gihren vs Kycilia intrigue, Challia's obvious duplicity, and the EF's efforts in this brand new world out the window.
