I finished ep 3
The third ep was quite bad
The first half of it consisted entirely of the main character yapping about bullshit for literally minutes uninterrupted while everyone just stares at her with mouth agape. Then she goes off and leaves the second place she was to find a NEW new life where she can live peacefully, and I'm just left here wondering what the point of these first two episodes even are if they ended up being basically useless in the grand scheme of things. I guess theyre going for a story where she cant live a normal life because she keeps fucking up by making it obvious she's special? If so, I'm not intrested in watching episode after episode of her starting over in a new city to fuck it all up again. The animation is really weak and bland. Very few shots look genuinely good or beautiful. I can excuse mediocre animation as long as there's a quality story or writing attatched, but, the writing is also very lacking here. It's just all over the damn place and feels like it doesn't know what it wants to be
The potion premise is completely wasted as there is actually nothing cool she does with them. Not only do we not get to see them being made, the process of learning and crafting, they just appear out of thin air, it's been three episodes and so far she's only used healing potions and appearance change potions for the most part. There was a scene at the end of ep 3 where she used a few more varieties, including a perfume basically, but that was like a minute long scene. Where's the creativity? Where's the actual magical effects she can apparently do anything with? Not even invisibility? Oh yeah, but make a onions sauce potion to make omletterice, yeah, that's what I'm here for fuck yeah. Come on man. I get the slight subversion that she though she was going to be in a fantasy world and it turns out it was just medival europe she got sent to, but is that really a strong premise for a show? What's the point man? Might drop, idk
I shall survive by using potions!
Literally every FUNA work is like this. First time?
I dropped this shit too, it doesnt get any better.
You can tell this & Saving 80,000 Gold were written about the same time, they're like two versions of the same idea
Yeah I havent heard of funa before
I picked it up because I liked the idea of a potion-type anime. I like potions and have my own concept for an alchemist-type story that I'm "writing" (lol I don't actually write, I just pretend I do) which I think would work best as an SoL anime. Anyways, the show made a really bad first impression with the first ten minutes of pure isekai garbo, but I was willing to excuse it if the rest of the show was going to be good. So far it hasn't improved on that impression. There were a few laughs here and there, but nothing that grabbed me at all and I feel very mislead. Still, I try to give shows a chance even if the concept they start with isnt followed through on, but they didnt subvert my le expectations with anything substantially good. I'm fine with watching a potion show that isnt directly about running a potion shop, as you can consider that too "obvious" of plot, but atleast give me something good to replace it
I think I probably will, too. I might give it one more ep to see if there is anything at all cool she will do with the potions, but if not, then I'm gonna doomp et
Also here's an excerpt of my own idea. It would be written as a journal / recipe book of a journeyman alchemist as he runs his shop on the outskirts of a a middle-size farming town. Sometimes pages would be purely recipes for potions, complete with changes and scribbling out amounts, and silly little short-hand notes. Sometimes accompanied by detailed stories of the potion's uses or the sales tactics the seller uses to hawk his wares. Other pages would be more detailed description of the intricacies of running the business itself, like where he sources his materials, gets his glass from (he has connections with a glassblowing factory in a nearby town) and how he maintains his magical garden, which he works quite hard to keep secure. Other pages, still, would just be narrative journal entries about his life, which the following excerpt is. Enjoy
It's a standard female-protagonist isekai targeted at men. There's nothing special there. Every single work by FUNA is 90% recycled from his prior one.
I'm fine with watching a potion show that isnt directly about running a potion shop
Oh dear
We never spoke directly about it, but over the weeks she would stay more than she would go. The spare room I used for storage would empty of crates and fill with her things- clothes, toys, furniture from her old house, frogs- occasionally, which she would kidnap from the pond and keep for tea parties. I found myself telling her more and more often when I would go on trips to the forest or river to gather ingredients; More often than not I found her following me on these little excursions; Always trailing behind with her own little basket, picking what I picked, walking where I walked. One day, I woke up particularly tired after a long session of brewing and bottling. I dreaded going out to tend my garden, as I always ought to in the morning, and was delighted to see my basket already full. She was laying up on the rafters, all covered in dirt, with Bane resting on her lap and a book in her hand. The final moment came when a customer had entered the shop- a traveler I hadn't seen before. He began to tell me about his trouble sleeping on the road. I was about to begin my song and dance, as I heard the quick and familiar skipping on the floorboards, followed by the closet door creaking open, and careful walking back to my side. Just as the patron finished speaking, a bottle of Moonlighter appeared on the counter; she stood on her tiptoes, just barely able to see over it, and had a devilishly proud and smug smile on her face. As soon as the man left I knelt down and dropped the silver coins into her hands. "Luna, how would you like to be my apprentice and learn alchemy?" She looked confused for a moment, glancing up and down between me and the coins, "I thought I already was!"
(Pic rel btw, this is the scene at the end)
Well, what think? Would you watch this in anime form?
Nigga I said IF it had something intresting to replace it, dont just ignore half my statement and pretend I'm retarded bro that's rude
Gold coins was better
Hekichi was better than both and even that has problems.
But it does become about running a potion shop tho
I mean this one isnt a high bar to clear tho. Is it another isekaislop? How is it more enjoyable than this one?
Yeah, this is clearly all the rejected ideas from that
and how many episodes of boring shit to I have to sit through before that happens tho?
It starts either ep. 4 or 5, can't exactly remember
I mean I was already willing to give it another episode, so I guess I will continue then, but I'm not expecting much from this anime at this point. Sometimes you have to see something mediocre to truly appreciate quality i guess
Mitsuha is cute and greedy and has a gun and isn't afraid to kill
Is there a anime of this? I'm probably not gonna read an isekai manga desu
It was decent, but not something I'd rewatch.
Yeah, this is the weakest of Funa's 3 anime
I liked watching it after I considered her like a fickle god playing with mortals.
Fair enough fair enough
Yes
Yappari economy
WHY must anime autists always use their powers for EVIL
Sounds like a definite drop
A Jew grazing
What do you mean?
Yeah she looks pretty cute
May pick it up, dunno. I feel like I've been watching a ton of really good anime lately and for some reason I'm in the mood for abject slop, idk why my brain is telling me this
Waho waho youtube.com
Why is she so flat?
hides
I decided to give it a couple more eps
While the quality increased very slightly, it still didn't become about a potion shop, as you said. They skipped all of that and immediately went to mass production of healing potions to distribute throughout the kingdom via a "secret" organization the potiongirl set up. There was more meaningless screentime taken up by that dude from the old kingdom that tried to marry her, and now apparently she's about to go off and destroy an entire army. While I will give it a bit of credit because she is using more potions with more varying effects, as a whole the show hasn't gotten better and is still quite boring.
This post, however is a much better way to look at the show. It's more enjoyable if you view it through that lense, but it's still not VERY enjoyable. I am curious about what she's gonna do next, so I guess I will keep watching, but there really is nothing special here at all. It did make me question though, is there an isekai where the protagonist is a completely amoral retard who just fucks around and does things that may or may not get people killed while laughing it off? Something with a dark-humor tone, where the guy isn't directly le evil, but just so uninterested in anything but his own whims and fancies that he will, for example, accidentally kill someone he was trying to help with his powers and then just shrug it off as the victim's family is left to suffer? Might be funny lol
Funa starts relatively slow. You haven't reached the war crimes yet. Keep watching. Also potions is probably the weakest of the three series in anime. Too bad, Kaoru is the most psychotic of the three.
Stuff keeps happening and I don't know why
Try staying off your phone while watching it
cute merchant
Retard
I understand everything that is happening
I'm saying the pacing is bad. It's somehow rushed and dragging at the same time. I understand fully that she aquired various connections with influential people over her time there and used them to create a network of distribution while removing herself directly from the spotlight. But that's retarded and boring to watch. It's not fucking fun to watch a group of people sit at a table and talk about how they're going to distribute potions to the populace. And then see a one minute montage of them doing it. This is "people yapping: the anime" dude
I watched some more episodes
It's still pretty shit, but I only have five left so I'll probably finish it desu
The war crimes episode was alright, but it was, once again, followed by a scene where they all just sat around a table and she talked at them explaining why theyre gay and dumb and stuff
I like the talking horse more than any of the people btw
This is another big problem with the show, none of the character relationships feel real or valueable. Yeah, they're there and they appear to be friends, but there's no weight behind any of this stuff. The show is also getting more and more silly and whimsical, which I do like somewhat, but it's still pretty lacking in basically all areas. I don't really feel like I'm enjoying it too much, but I do laugh at jokes here and there and it occasionally gets a smile out of me. I wouldn't say there's anything here that's outright bad, but it's pretty boring most of the time, which I would argue is actually worse
Idk why I'm still watching
I ain't reading all that. I'm happy for you though, or sorry that happened.
Return from whence thou cameth
I'm taking a break, and probably going to take a nap, but I'll probably finish the anime after I wake up
Sunk cost, and all
