The scene in question is of a character finding discounted meat at a grocery store. In his story, the heroine buys discounted meat. Yes, that's the only similarity. I don't think you understand how the insanity plea works. Merely having a mental illness isn't enough. It needs to be proven that the defendant did not have the ability to distinguish between right or wrong due to the mental illness. Getting the insane judgment is very rare in Japan.
