Incest is a deliberate grey area in biology. As in it is discouraged normally, but when populations get low after a disaster it could be the only option. So it was never fully prevented by evolution.
Cheetahs, for example, had a massive dieoff once and the survivors are so closely related that they can have transplant organs with each othe with no rejection. It is obviously not a good thing to be that inbreed, but if the alternative is extinction the species had to deal with it. So incest is taboo but never banned.
