Not really, they introduce a new girl in the group who really is a nothingbuger, introduce "Kekkai" which is basically this manga power gimmick, and decided to lean more into the romance between MC & the princess. The latter is probably the reason it popularity is increasing, far too many shonen shy away from the romance so it's nice that at least this series is at least doing something with it.
