Catching up, the Valentine fight kinda sucked ass.
All the Spin2Win bullshit in Part 7 was bad, but riding a horse to unlock the ability to kill God - scratch that just being touched by a horse at some point in the last few seconds - is the worst of Steel Ball Run's bullshit. An ability that allegedly was designed to beat knight shields, now can blast through literal dimensional rifts and give you control over Gravity (fate) itself.
Valentine even needed to use psychic powers to instantly learn that the Spin needed a horse and that Steel Balls being perfect circles mattered, even if he had zero knowledge of the Spin before that.
Tusk 4 being a magic instant win button that gave Johnny the exact tools he needed to win is arguably even worse than Part 3's asspull, because at least Jotaro and DIO had a fight.

The other issue is that Valentine and Johnny literally have no connection, and barely even knew that they were opposing each other until the end. They have the weakest relationship of any main protagonist and main antagonist duo so far.
Even J4suke and Kira had a stronger link, despite only meeting twice.

Araki is not good at handling characters that have to slowly and incrementally change over long periods of time. His writing style is all about bombast and big twists. They don't mix.
