How exactly did Shinji fuck up so badly that the entire world was turned into an uninhabitable wasteland?

Because the rebuilds are shit, filled with asspulls and deus ex machina and the narrative as a whole is convoluted and makes no fucking sense.

Anno wants to make the Rebuilds as the "definitive" ending to Evangelion

they're a thousand times worse and shittier than the original anime

Was it ever explained exactly what happened between 2.22 and 3.33 that made the world like this? In a manga, a video game, or something in an interview with the staff?

kensuke. just kensuke.

.
After what happened in 2.22 and 3.33. With the 14 year timeskip to grow up while he was frozen like a popsicle. Asuka and Shinji ending up together was never going to happen

Still doesn't explain exactly how Shinji trying to pull rei out of the angels core, and getting speared by kaworu turned the world into this. It couldn't have been his fault, and yet in 3.33 the entire story treats him like it is his fault.

You can infer the events from 3.0. Near Third Impact (the end of 2.0) eventually led to Third Impact.

Some unknown events involving the Mark 06, (which was remodeled into an autonomous type), and the 12th Angel caused True Third Impact. Kaji somehow stopped it. Kaworu may or may not have been involved. My bet is that Lilith was decapitated during Third Impact, preventing true completion.

Misato is salty probably because Shinji did not wake up to help her, like in that episode where he was stuck in Unit 01, but this time he never got out.

This does not go into the actual events. One day we will get 2.5 though.

If the audience needs to infer events and doesn't understand just by watching the film. You've made a shitty film.

Yes, yes, it's an Eva movie.

One day we will get 2.5 though.

Unlikely. Anno said 3.0+1.0 is the end of all evangelion, and he's moving on to things he actually cares about. The ending of the last movie made it so it's utterly impossible for more Evangelion to be made. Since all the cast are now either dead or in totally seperate realities, their respective 'heavens'.

lol, 46 hours was made post 3.0+1.0. He'll roll out 2.5 one of these days. He wants Eva to be like Gundam now.

Misato is salty probably because Shinji did not wake up to help her

The last rebuild film pissed me off so much. Shinji and Misato's relationship was the heart and soul of the original series, and the last two rebuild movies just totally shit all over it for the sake of 'muh drama'. They didn't even really get the free time to have a heart to heart or apologize.

Even if more eva does get made. Anno will never tell a version of Evangelion that actually gives the audience what it wants without any of the deconstruction twist bullshit.

That just explained what happened from the point of view of one of the crew. It doesn't really explain what caused the apocalypse.

Where did the 'failures of infinity' come from?

How did nerv get dozens of evangelions when you need a human soul to create them?

Who decapitated Lilith and how?

Why did everyone on the Wunder blame Shinji for the apocalypse when it was obviously Gendos fault?

What happened to the world governments during the fourteen year time skip?

Who shot Eva Unit 01 into outer space?

If the world is post apocalyptic where'd they get the resources to build the wunder?

Where did Mari come from? We never got her backstory, she just sort of happened.

Congratulations

The original series wasn't shitty. It had a depressing ending. But at least it made sense.

And then to add further insult. She fucking died. She deserved a future with Shinji and her son. She didn't even get to potentially come back from the dead like she did in the original series with instrumentality.

It wasn't him, it was Gendo

The film didn't do a good job of explaining that.

Why did everyone on the Wunder blame Shinji when it was Gendos fault?

Because they are retarded

Is there a reason other than Annos incompetence?

No

That's the problem with making counter-culture art, you exist as a counterpoint to something contemporary. As soon as time goes by, even just a decade, you lose connection to your art. Rebuilds started over two decades after the original. The culture has changed, Neon Genesis Evangelion isn't a counterpoint to anything, it's a mainstream classic on is own, audiences have changed, viewing habits have changed and most importantly Anno has changed. It's like a 50 year old man trying to relive the life they did in their 20's, it's a perverse sad mockery of something that used to be.

It's funny how you can tell which anons went to community college

I mean I got into eva through the rebuilds so it did some good. It's just the last two movies took too long to come out, and took too many creative risks instead of just retelling the original story but with a bigger budget.

>If the audience needs to infer events and doesn't understand just by watching the film. You've made a shitty film.

I am not going to argue the point you are making but I am going to make a note that there is a fuckload you needed to infer in the original series, and some of it you just straight up do not have the info to come to the right conclusion without going into the games.

fuckload you needed to infer in the original series

Well enough was straight up told to the audience that they didn't need to infer an entire missing piece of context.

Do you think Eva is 'counter-culture', lmao.

The series entire existence was meant to be a rebuttal to the entire concept of both mecha. Showing how realistic teens would react to being forced to pilot giant machines and kill monsters to save the human race.

Ah, an ignorant. Eva is super derivative. Gundam and Devilman did everything Eva did decades before it existed.

Gundam usually didn't have the apocalyptic stakes that eva has.

Watch Victory Gundam and Gundam X.

apocalyptic stakes

Read Devilman.

Honestly, I can only think of a couple reasons as to why Anno isn’t giving a clear answer to what happened.

Either he’s being clever, or he himself has no clue and is just throwing his hand up into the air saying “Hey, let the audience figure it out.”

So when the Zeruel-equivalent Angel in the Rebuilds consumed Rei, Shinji dove into its core to get Rei back. He finally found his courage to do what he wanted, which was to protect the people he cared about. Unfortunately this overloaded Unit 01, which went beyond its limits and manifested a Halo, becoming an Adam-like being and initiating the Third Impact. However, Kaworu arrived and speared Unit 01 with the Spear of Cassius, which shut Unit 01 down. The Third Impact was averted, but still caused widespread devastation. As such, this event came to be known as the Near-Third Impact.

The actual Third Impact happened later, triggered by Gendo to complete the process Shinji inadvertently started. Kaji stopped it by crashing a helicopter into the Geofront, sacrificing himself. However, this core-ized most of the planet, causing 90% of humanity to vanish, vast regions of the world became uninhabitable, and the Failures of Infinity began to rise up in the core-ized parts of the world. People blame Shinji for this because the Near-Third Impact started this, Gendo just finished it.

Didn't someone cheer Shinji on to go through with it?

Where did Mari come from? We never got her backstory, she just sort of happened.

Mari is a friend of Gendo and Yui, the same age as them. She volunteered to be an Eva test pilot, and the "Curse of the Evas" stunted her growth and kept her as a young adult permanently. Shinji and Asuka suffer the same "curse", which is why Asuka looks identical years later after the timeskip. She's not happy about being stuck as a teenager permanently while everyone else grew up.

It was Misato

Who knew that putting Shinji in a peaceful village and put a giant wall between him and Asuka yield actual result. 3.0 would entirely be avoided if they just put him to sleep or just tell him the truth.

crashing a helicopter into the Geofront, sacrificing himself

What the actual fuck is this bullshit, you can now interrupt planetary scaled technomagical rituals by crashing vehicleswith no survivors in them, what's next? Interrupting Impacts with a firework launch?

The more I learn about rebuilds lore the more I realize rebuilds are a literal fanfiction retardfest and no amount of cope and explanation attempts will convince me otherwise. Eva ended with the EoE. Period.

When Shinji and Kaworu descend into the Geofront towards Terminal Dogma they spot the crashed chopper. Kaji managed to stop the chain reaction at the cost of his life, and Misato blamed herself for everything.

My head cannon is

3rd impact

Planet begins to corrupt like in EOE crumbling and turning Red

Kaiji pilots the robot and goes out to decapitate lillith before she can fully wake up

Dies because of the strain or some shit

Eva's which are in production get souls infused Into them via 3rd impact and like 99% of the planet fucking dying

3rd impact doesnt get to finish but the planet is still corrupted by EVA shit

Gendo wants to finish the human instrumentality

Misato takes EVA 01 and Shinji in the space ship they somehow made + The Asuka clone machine

Still have no idea about Cassius or what the fuck it even is though.

I didn't crop the picture

Curse me 5 years ago

How the did Kaji manage to prevent an impact with a helicopter? Impacts are supposed to be these things that only another eva unit can stop.

You're pretending that Evangelion ever laid out its lore in a clear and concise manner?

She was probably angry at herself for cheering him on and the part she played in destroying the world, and that's why she was so cold towards him.

The original series make it clear enough, why couldn't the rebuilds?

People blame Shinji for this because the Near-Third Impact started this, Gendo just finished it.

Blaming Shinji for the impact more than Gendo is like blaming the passenger of the car for the crimes of the drunk driver. 3.33 ruined everything.
