great yakuza story
great comedy
great moe show
Why did it flop? It's a miraculous cross genre mix that shouldn't have been possible. I guess moe simpletons just couldn't handle a serious crime story with dark humor

Because it wasn't any of those things
It was in fact all of those things. I expected a yakuza parody but it was actually the best yakuza story I've ever seen in anime. You're free to name a better one
You can tell genuine otaku from the 'ronics by knowing if they loved or akiba maid sensou
Why did it flop?
Forced hetero subplot in it.
Anime fans have bad taste. Pearls before swine.
niche concept is going to have niche appeal and only reach a niche audience. the most stuff like akiba maid war can hope for is being a cult classic that the studio can milk for nostalgia 20 years later
It could have made more money if they ever sold those statues.
/thread
Yeah, unlike the yuribait shows by the same studio that were huge successess.... oh wait, they flopped even harder, kek.
swine
heh ironic
Sabagebu did it better in half an episode
oh wait, they flopped even harder, kek.
Ironically nothing fallen harder than Akiba Maid War in their portfolio.
Still possibly the best forced haircut scene in anime
Based op
literally who
Well, it wasn't a comedy it was like a meme mod for some yakuza story where everyone became a maid. It has gags but it's too serious
Ranko . . . ;_;
She didn't deserve it...
Why did it flop?
Did it? The only thing I found about it flopping was a reddit link with no source.
Akira maid war is the only universally beloved anime of the 20's with the exception of odd taxi
This was FVCKING KINO, and I loved every second of it
I only wish our main maid stayed in the ninja outfit after she put it on the first time, or incorporate ninja elements into her standard maid clothes.
rendez buu
Most people don't even know it exists
ALSO WHY DIDN'T THE SLUT STAY UN-SLUTTIED, AAAAAAAARHHHHHHHHH
Retard manager was a great character
The tension in this scene was powerful
The ending was awesome, the fucking best
I love this hag like you wouldn't believe
as a cocksleeve!
as a stressed out wageslave to leglock missionary until pregnant
do you seriously want children as retarded as her? You'd need Newton's level of intelligence to cancel out her idiocy
Nagomi's the best pick anyway. Strong, determined, always cheerful, loyal, much less retarded
do you seriously want children as retarded as her?
ignorance is bliss
My favorite anime of all time. Kino from start to finish
But manager lived a life full of terrors, she might have been happy for 5mins total.
Insisted upon itself
It's ironic
I had the brew, she had the chronic
The Lakers beat the Supersonics
This anime was a kino comedy thriller and the only reason it flopped is because it doesn't have mainstream appeal, being firmly located in the otaku niche
Yeah. I was caught offguard by how crazy that bitch was.
But manager lived a life full of terrors, she might have been happy for 5mins total.
I sympathise deeply with this sort of life. You make do with the cards you've been dealt with
It overcomplicated itself by the different factions with animals instead of just being maids vs maids
Still makes me FEEL
This is a masterpiece
Most peaceful baseball episode in all of anime
post that image
That pig deserves to get porked.
venezuelans, lol
Awww she never forgot Ranko and survived
I was really worried its gonna be one of those "everyone dies, fuck you" endings, so glad they didn't do it.
I almost puked when she got un-gyaru'd. Thank hog it was temporary.
Why did it flop?
Yuribaiting and being forced hetslop.
The approach to storytelling of "characters exist in seemingly standard time and place, except they to insane things that dont make sense" is not very satisfying
like the author just excuses all of his failings with the premise
hetslop
fuck off fag tourist
what if maid cafes were everywhere
and they also worked like yakuza gangs, with turfwars and everything
and the show does exactly that
I don't see how it's "failing" with its premise.
It was still the most popular PA Works original of the last 6-7 years. If this was a flop then imagine all the others
Well imagine bethesda guy saying "the logic doesnt matter, fallout is fantasy"
Thats kinda what you lean towards with this type of work. Nothing matters and everything is excusable with "eh why are you looking for logic here? Are you retarded?"
Nice try but I'm not arguing that
The internal logic of the show is sound. Yes, the premise is absurd, but it doesn't contradict itself and it works.
Well it doesnt work. The shows OP and 1st ep were hyped which then died immediately to very low levels of excitement.
popular = good
it bad because low reception
kindly kill yourself fag
muh dead gays cliche
in a show that's *explicitly* not gay, as you yourself stated
also what is friendship
Just call it shitty yuribaiting instead of whatever wankery you're doing now.
Kek
japanese people have terrible taste
And the entire rest of the world has even worse taste
jesus christ I hope these people talking about yuri are trolling because if they aren't that's really fucking embarrassing
It's a yakuza show, of course it's about sisterly bonds and not gay sex. Yakuza movies aren't about men having gay sex. You people are as bad as fujos with your gay shit
It's simple: People who dislike otaku humor skipped it and people who like otaku humor dropped it when it got more serious.
It's perfectly logical. Why can't maids be yakuza? Yakuza controls a lot of entertainment and maid cafes are basically 1 step away from compensated dating which is 1 step away from prostitution. Yakuza slides into that setting nicely.
yurikeks expecting yuri from P.A. Works
I laugh every time
people who like otaku humor dropped it when it got more serious
What about people with more than 1 brain cell who like more than 1 thing
the real reason why the show wasn't a huge success is that there are very few real otaku, and there never were that many in the first place
the cross-section of people who appreciate the yakuza film aspect and the okatu culture references is actually very small
She just came there looking for a place to die. And when she was denied that, she said fuck it, I choose to die here anyway so fuck all of you
I would say its that slapstic violence isn't a crowd pleaser in the "I gotta go buy the dvd now" or "this slapstick character is going on a poster on my wall" sense.
Remember nichijou? That shit flopped hard too.
what if the real otaku just don't like the show
you speak as if their enjoyment of it is a given
blaming otakus and not all the million shonensloppers who don't watch anything but that
there are very few real otaku
otaku changed and the meaning of the word changed.
akiba-kei is no more, akiba is no more (than a tourist trap), move on.
What was up with that little hoe anyway? Least explored character on the show and she's like in every other scene. Didn't get a backstory at all
did you just decide not to read the second sentence? my whole point is that you're already making references to a small group, and an even smaller group appreciates it
That's why it's set in the 90s, us oldfags are still around, this is for us
cygames is soulless so their products lack soul even if they are not gacha
what i mean to say is that vtumor gachawales are just as much otaku as you are, pointless to draw the line between who is "real" and who isn't.
some ACTUAL oldfags would have your head on a stick for suggesting that moe and appreciation of moe is in anyway central to otaku culture
what, you think that because akiba changed those people all just disappeared? what kind of retarded nonsense is this?
this is the most retarded thing I've read in weeks, you can be an anime otaku, a vtuber otaku and a gacha otaku at the same time, or any combination
we're specifically talking about anime otaku who would get the references in this show, you're talking about some irrelevant semantic garbage
their products lack soul
sad
off yourself
tfw they used the baseball photo at a funeral
Was that a joke? I felt very conflicted seeing it, am I supposed to laugh or cry
nice argument retard, sorry your purity test garbage is irrelevant
the point is that anime otaku have always been a small minority, regardless of era
implying i'm the purity tester
Alright I had a feeling you were retarded but this settles it, I have no clue how you can read the posts and not see it as an all but explicit denunciation of purity spiraling
yurifags are actually seething about this episode
It was Cowboy Bebop tier, really dramatic shit that you rarely see in modern anime
I always assumed it was the only photo of her they had
dubs of truth. It threw me for a huge loop when the story ended up hitting all the beats of a serious crime drama. The gangster who's come out of prison but can't adjust to all the new people getting "soft" and working things out with business (RIP Big Bang Galaxy Expansion Dream). The two former comrade gangsters locked in an inevitable bloody showdown. The Venezuelan Mercenaries being brought in from aboard as extra muscle. The factional infighting, the acquisition of territory, the consolidation of gangs, the murders to avenge the honour of people long dead... You could swap the cast of maids for serious gangsters and it all still works. But it's maids, and it works ridiculously well. The ending still hits me in the feels
Even her prison mugshot would've been more appropriate...
And the whole
they were so close to escaping the cycle of violence but their past caught up with them
aspect
and the forlorn noodle shop guy who used to be in the business, "but went legit." The bittersweet ending I swear could be lifted straight out of the Wire. Memorials to people only remembered by a few, in streets that used to be warzones but now are just happy cafes. A show about maids did not need to be this soulful
OP song is great but only 30 seconds of it is an actual song
the full version just adds more non-song bits to it
I don't know if I can be any more clear, but I'll try again
the only person bringing up purity nonsense is you
the point is that anime otaku have always been a small minority, regardless of era
your comments are irrelevant and pointless, go bring this shit up somewhere else
Fuck Yumechi
16bit Sensation and Maid War both have to isekai into the 90s to represent Akiba culture
Has Japan fallen, is Akiba dead
the only person bringing up purity nonsense is you
you fucking started it when you carelessly threw around the word "real", which immediately begs the question as to where one draws the line
the real reason why the show wasn't a huge success is that there are very few REAL otaku, and there never were that many in the first place
maybe be more specific with your wording next time, though i doubt using clearer language will do anything more than make your idiotic babble easier to parse
p.s hang yourself
I loved every minute of it and the threads were fun
tries to derail the thread because someone used a word he didn't like
complains that I was being unclear when I reiterated multiple times and he still clung to some stupid purity conversation instead of talking about why the fucking show didn't sell
you are unbearably stupid, stay on topic next time faggot nigger
the akiba maid war threads were such a comfy time. I can't remember having that much fun on Anon Babble with anons other than the thunderbolt fantasy threads or KamiKatsu threads
calm down, you're going to hurt yourself
I did not like the baseball episode. It just wasn't funny, or moe, or dramatic. Baseball sucks
I'm calm, calling someone a faggot nigger is just another day at the office
maybe you should direct your comment at the guy telling people to kill themselves over a conversation about anime sales
I'm calm
coulda fooled me
It didn't flop. It did perfectly fine as an original.
CARLOSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
here's a tip, don't try to imagine someone's emotional state based on text they're typing
you can't be fooled if you don't open yourself up to it
perhaps I should have said candyass roodypoo instead, since this board has gotten so soft lately
anyway, 2022 was a really bad year for BD sales in general, people spent half of what they spent the previous year
oddly enough, akiba maid sensou merch is still selling to this day, there's not much new merch being made and what is made often sells out
I agree it's one of my favorite animes. The boss seriously was my favorite character shes such a scumbag
you can throw a dart randomly at what gets popular or not, and most people have garbage taste and only notice the top 2-3 that are making a buzz in any season
It's not "popular" but it was highly rated, it made both Anon Babble and 2chan's top anime lists for the year. It's in cult status.
let me help you translate these terms
I didn't like it = flop
I liked it = aots
all other derivative terms mean exactly the same, it's just shitposters trying to pass their opinions as facts
It's not popular on MAL and whether you like it or not that reflects popularity outside of Japan. It was number 18 by popularity that season. Yeah that's unpopular
I feel like all iterations of this meme are pure gold. Thank you for posting it, I love it.
Yeah, I didn't like the """""OP""""" either, so I always just skipped it. Maybe I'll trim it to just the song so I have something to listen to
