Very interesting but odd announcements mixed with the anime news. Does anyone know why the author was on Hiatus? It's strange how the series is coming back but as digital only at the same time an anime is coming out. Not to mention a change in the artist. Really interested in what's been happening behind the scenes that lead up to these decisions.

My theory is Omaegotoki was supposed to get an anime a few years ago, which led to the hiatus of the LN so kiki could then assist with the anime and manga adaption full time. However, some shit then went down behind the scenes after another certain yuri anime adapted from an LN had an awful production and was poorly received. They panicked and decided to wait to ensure a better production and could guarantee uncensored blu-ray bonus episodes of kiki's online only NSFW sex chapters between Neigass and Sara.

The rumor on the JP side was that the author had a mental breakdown. Supposedly they got into their head that they would disappoint people and they crashed while trying to write the 5th volume.
Blood Princess, Kill Them All was the author venting/getting back on track. Now they're in a better place and able to write again, thus new volumes, anime, etc.

Was the content past 4th book that different in the web format compared to prior ones or in need of polish/rewrite? I don't remember the afterwords for the first four that well but they were more or less the usual forced gratitude for the publisher/editor/illustrator and the then upcoming manga adaptation.

Are you reading the manga? They are holding hands in the first volume of the LN all the time, in volume 2 Flum is already being called out for masturbating too much in the bath because of Milkit.
Omae Gotoki has been out there for long, but I would say all fantasy yuri will eventually get anime if they didn't get axed at volume 2. Hell Omae Gotoki LNs were even axed and it still got anime anyway because the manga has been selling well.
If the anime do justice, then people will really like Flum, she isn't your nice and kind hero who allows the bad guys to live, she goes on a murder rampage against everyone in her way or who hurt Milkit. On volume 2 she even kills a lot of innocent guards because she had no other way since they were attacking her until false premises.

How? I've seen a lot of people claim that the manga is incredibly underwhelming, especially compared to the LN. Also, hasn't its release schedule been incredibly sporadic?
It sold around 400k in 7 volumes, considering the LN was axed most of those sales came from the manga, it's likely around 50-55k for each volume, so decent enough.
Personally I think the series premise is very alluring besides the manga disastrous execution both in the art and story aspect.
I didn't mind the art that much yeah somehow the pacing feels off that I kept forgetting to read the newer chapters.
The pacing is off because they keep cutting content, whole arcs, SOL stuff and so on and of course the schedule is too inconsistency as it suddenly goes months without a chapter
And that yeah, though wasn't the magazine itself for the manga serialization on some odd schedule like once every quarter?
