I'm actually nervous here. Should I be? 48 episodes in the first 2 seasons. They covered up to chapter 175. The manga ended at like 300. The opening for this cour (and I believe we only get 12 episodes) includes inca and Shinra going to the past. Does that mean we only get 12 episodes for the cataclysm and final arc?

It's a necessary part. They haven't excluded anything so far and even made sure to include Tamaki's curse in the recap portion of this episode.
That's anime only content where they made sure to maintain the integrity of each of the characters.

I don't know. I think it works either way. Fire force does really well closing the loop on story it wants to tell regarding humanity's unconcious desires and all that stuff.

I agree with the other anon. The finale ends the story of Fire Force thoroughly but I see what you're saying too, having read Soul Eater gives you a whole other aspect on top of that.
