Think of Kanokari as a more extreme version of Jashin-chan. It survives off a relatively small but very dedicated fanbase. The sales are declining with each volume and S3 failed to give the manga any boost. The game tanked sales-wise. Yes, Kanokari still outsells most of WSM, but it's nowhere near its peak and these days is closer to GCT's sales than its peak numbers. It's the objective truth that the series' popularity is in decline and has been for years. It largely lives off merch, and the fanbase, while shrinking, still has a sizable contingent of simps that pays a lot for merch and other media. Those are the people S3 and S4 are made for. No one is denying Kanokari is popular or successful. It's WSM's second-biggest romcom after Gotoubun and still the case today. People can acknowledge something is popular and still think it's shit. Those two aren't mutually exclusive.
