I finally watched Frieren

After dropping it in episode 3 for being extremely slow, as soon as the story picked up on episode 5 or so, I watched all the other episodes in one night back to back. I guess most anons who didn't like it are like me, who had dropped it earlier. I recommend you give it a second chance, power through until episode 10. If you don't like it by then, then you can say for sure you didn't like it.

I can see the flaws, it's a 9/10, but it does deserve the praise it gets. Definetely the perfect anime to introduce a person who's never seen anime to.

False, it actually gets even worse and away from the original themes.

How?

The first half is the best one though. It goes downhill when the ninja exam starts.

i enjoyed it

I don't get how someone wouldn't like it by ep3 but get into it by ep5 and eventually end up liking it.
It had action but even with the chunin exams most of the content is still SoL, which is the first 5 episodes are about.

magic exam is very slow with some kino moments
but yeah demon arc is peak.

Stark is more of a stereotypical hyper-expressive anime character than the girls, so I imagine he really rounds out the team for more. Also, at ep. 4, the series gets an end-goal which brings some focus.

I saw the first couple eps and thought they were an alright journey anime stuff, then apparently it just turns into a fight fag show and generic Shonen stuff
I'm still of the opinion they should have double down on frierens long life and have her outlive every person she meets and has to make new friends and companions again

It’s comfy but I don’t see what’s so great

study this image closely

great music
great animation
great lolibaba elf wife

i didnt get a chance to say goodbye to my frieren friday friends

Why didn't Sein became part of the main cast? Was he not popular enough?

When I finally get to this alleged "tournament arc", and it turns out to be excellent and top the Wind Breaker tournament arc in character and thematic development, I'm going to tear this entire board a new one
as unlikely as that is to happen since the Wind Breaker tournament arc was pretty excellent

Goodbye. It was a decent thread.

its not good but it had some good moments
also it has the most erotic characters such as Denken

Denken is based.

I hope you enjoy it anon, while I think it's a step-down from previous arcs I still think it's handled well overall and still provides good character moments for both the new and old characters.

He's back in the manga. But anyway, it was probably that there's just no space for him. Poor Stark is starved for screentime and since the Exam the mages become recurring characters.

The fact that out of all these waifubait and fujobait characters, the one that got the greatest focus afterward is Denken fills my heartbwith immeqsurable joy.

OILF

What? This flower imagery is supposed to represent eternal lovers?

Eh, surely Himmel didn't know about it.

*Flashbacks to Himmel giving the ring to her on his knees while putting it in specifically on her ring finger*

Not sure if that was meant to be funny though.

that dramatic explosion followed by a hard cut to their muted expressions of 'oh bother' is I believe an example of bathos? this show has been doing it the whole time

Did the manga ever showed how the demon king looked like?

no

I see your point but to me it felt more dramatic than anything, especially the slow-mo of the ring. The sulking at the end part does have a slightly comedic tint though.

The most adorable little thing.

Isn't this from the manga?

this is the structure of the joke that was made

that scene was so romantic
unfortunately himmel is a fucking cuck, he grows old holding onto some junk for his oneitis and never chases her down to impregnate here. its total bs. this guy fought the demon king, surely he has the balls to ask the elf girl to be his gf.

could she get impregnated? when do elves reach menopause? what if it's at age 40-50 like everyone else, and that's why elves have such a hard time procreating, because at that age they'd rather play hopscotch than hop in the sack?

Frieren didn't really value Himmel that much until he died, besides, the only way this could work was if he went with her to pursue more magic, he probably didn't want to spend the rest of his life on a hobby that could get him killed just for Frieren to get another wacky spell.

on a hobby that could get him killed

First of all she was travelling the central lands not the northern area plagued by demons. Secondly, he was incredibly powerful as well, and together with her they would have been a very powerful combo.
I get not wanting to go with her but fear of death wasn't a reason.

I mentioned that as more of a side thing and not a main factor.

Are half-elves sterile like mules, or what's the big deal? With elves living for thousands of years, I would've convinced every elf I come across that "It's just a meager 9 months" and continuously use them to pump out babies. How come the topic of half-elves isn't touched upon in the anime?

Frieren (33).jpg - 659x465, 59.65K

Why I can't be this comfy...

Fair enough. I guess another part of it was that he hoped she would return. Eventually she did, but on her own time.

I haven't watched anything past the anime, so no spoilers please...but:
If Megane-kun fucks Ubel - would he still be a virgin technically?

I like both for different reasons

If we go down to the basics here, what would his clone is is basically just a very detailed sex doll of him. So yes, he'd be a virgin.

Literal autism.
I'd assume all elves are inherently autistic, but Kraft didn't seem too bad in that sense(although I'm not so sure).
Maybe it's just the elf women.
Serie is even worse.

I was kinda like that. It was ok at the beginning, kinda slow, different to what I was used to or expecting. Good but nothing worth praise it was getting. I remember around episode 6 I was googling "when does Frieren get good." Aura arc turned me around. Sure, it was the first shonen arc, but it made me appreciate all those travel arcs, the one that came before and all that came after.

There's lots to like about it

I didn't make it past the first episode. A couple of laughs here, but nothing that caught my attention...

WATCH IT DUBBED ENGLISH VA'S ARE THE SUPERIOR AND PATRICIAN CHOICE.

she has hundreds of years of experience

Yes, in chapter 22. See Not sure why the anime cut it. I guess it's because that design isn't definitive and will likely change once the author finally decides to tell the story of the victory of the Hero's Party.

Frieren didn't really value Himmel that much until he died

She did, why do you think she remembers every little detail about him?
She's just an autistic Erufu and haven't realised it yet.

I don't believe you OP, because the show goes downhill after episode 6, and then it goes up again after Sein joins, and then goes all the way down again after Sein leaves.

it made me appreciate all those travel arcs, the one that came before and all that came after.

That's interesting. I'm not sure how often (if ever) I experienced retro-actively changing my opinion on a show.

That was the point, she didn't know how good she had until she lost him.

She valued but she wasn't aware of it until his death, otherwise she would have visited sooner.
