I'm aware that I am in the minority with this opinion, but I hated episode 3. The tanukis ruined the tone that had been built up so far (outside of one scene with the dead humans) and I'm really disappointed that they are sticking around.
Honestly kind of show ruining for me.

I doubt it. Most people seemed to find them annoying. I think they should've been one and done like plant dude. Still, it's only been one episode and this is a Cygames original;, so who knows what's to come.

my optimistic estimation is that they stay here for a few eps then either fade into the background or go elsewhere, there was a 50 year timeskip between this episode and the last so who knows; I just think tanukis only without more aliens would be a massive missed opportunity

My main issue with it is that the show spent an entire episode showing Yachiyo trying to communicate with the green guy and struggling throughout the entire thing, and then we get "aliens" that are just tanukis that speak perfect Japanese because they found some fashion magazine in an abandoned ship.
What's the fucking point.

Got really hooked on the 2nd episode, it was fantastic. love this show so far

yeah episode 2 was still funny and heartwarming despite the alien being actually 'alien' and hard to comprehend, I get that they needed the communication issues to be less of a severe problem sooner or later but I hope we get more actually weird aliens instead of the anime turning into the robot + tanuki show

Why did mankind run away? It seems like it would only get worse and not better with time. I get if they were going to go full Matrix and block out the sun. Or fire, slash and burn fire sounds good. Maybe a Fern COVID or generically engineer something like Nausicaä. But why expect things to get better on their own?

I just hope they keep up the weirder guests alongside the tanukis at least, just ditching that concept after how good plant alien's episode was feels like such a waste

I wonder how many years the story is going to take place over, so far we are roughly 200 years into the future (disease in 2057 then give or take 20 to get off the planet).

It's extra weird as the gunner robot was just introduced and he is chatty, which made me think no other aliens that could communicate would show up for at least a few episodes.

The point of that episode was that acts of kindness transcend any language barrier. I don't feel the tanuki family subtracts from that message. They offer a different kind of obstacle to the MC.
