Keeping the war devil's powers is important to put an end the the prophecy. The story can only have a happy ending if Asa is/becomes the mars of the prophecy or if the prophecy is completely fake somehow.

I don't think Asa really wants to return to an existence like that, anymore than Denji wants to return to his life of poverty and debt slavery.
