Americans now control Tenchi Muyo! Outside Japan

Kajishima is a hack and everything good about Tenchi Muyo came from other people. See the post-90s OVAs. Still not sure about Americans handling Tenchi Muyo because Americans are cancer. They might give Mihoshi a BLM shirt.

I fear this will be a woke reboot the mos with pronouns. Don't be surpirsed if Kiyone and Mihoshi end up as lesbians

Let’s see how it goes, the continuity can’t get more fucked.

Don't be surpirsed if Kiyone and Mihoshi end up as lesbians

This definitely will happen. It's not so bad because the central conflict is the love triangle between Ayeka and Ryoko for Tenchi but I still prefer Mihoshi and Kiyone as friends

He is but woke californian libs are even worse.

Bump for my hot wife Ryoko who deserves a men who loves her and HER alone.

Can't argue with that. Tenchi is a beta.

What's up with America's fascination with Tenchi Muyo? Steven Universe is basically a crossover fic between Tenchi Universe and Sailor Moon (especifically the Stars arc) and The Owl House is a Tenchi/Ayeka fic. The weirdest thing is that these retellings come from people that usually would find Tenchi Muyo as everything they're used to hate

tenchi wars.jpg - 1000x1316, 189.64K

idk I was never that into it. It's shonen slop right?
Tried watching Solo Leveling last night. I lasted 10 minutes. Holy God it's cancer.

It's because they are nostalgic for Tenchi Universe. They still think of it as the sanitasided pg-13 version they saw in toonami back then.

No it's harem slop.

aired on toonami at a formative time for most animators working these days

why else

It's just reprint of the 90's comic which actually pretty well drawn, why you guys all spregs like some shitty grifter Youtubers?

So? it's just going be like some Gold Digger/Ninja High School type shit if that happens, you motherfuckers are brainrotted.

Dude read the whole thing. It's also on youtube channel and facebook. They said if this was succesful and they proved there was interest (they just did) AIC would let them use the franchise for an exclusive "American continuity" .

Not even. Its the og harem anime but with sci-fi action shenanigans. And then it became about a bunch of space hags grooming little boys.

It did kind of dip a little to deep into the questionable motivations of what the series was about. This is why the original run are superior than being in complete Kajishima control, because like with poetry, history rhymes.

No. It's gonna be Tenchi Universe made by americans.

Already replied.

Yeah, by old weeb farts who make the type of comics that came out in mid 90's like Adam Warren's Dirty Pair or the US Harlock comics, harmless most likely mid art usually little tie in things that are fine.

It was a very early license, so it was among a LOT of people's first 10 anime series, and thus gets a pass on being "problematic" due to nostalgia.

I wish they touched El Hazard instead since no one cares about it nowadays except for some really old murrican boomers

We will be lucky if they do antyhing but more Tenchi Universe.

I hope AIC does not make the same mistake as Sega where they had to get into a legal fight with the Archie artist who made Sonic the Hedgehog comics because of character rights issues.

what are they going to do with Sasami?
holy shit that's hot.
watched that recently and it was bizarre.

Don't hold your breath. If AIC was bussiness savy they would be printing money from Tenchi instead of some randoms in america.

Mihoshi blew up the Deathstar by pressing the wrong buttons

She is not going to be with Tenchi that's for sure.

It's shonen slop right?

Not in the least. The OVAs are more harem SoL, and Universe is a Sci-Fi adventure.
It's the OG harem series, and one of the only that has a Harem End.

Gold Digger/Ninja High School type shit

God I can only hope.
Maybe they could get Fred on for a few issues. He'd jump at the chance to add some Wau friend of Mihoshi and Kiyone.

You people know it's just a reprinting of the 1997 American Tenchi 6 Issue comics from Pioneer, right? Isn't this kickstarter project literally just a republication?

That, plus they claim that if it goes well, they'll start making new stories.

Newfags always want to be spoonfed. They said the kcikstarter was just to prove there was interest in tnechi. People already asked this.

No it's not. The company behind this said that if this was succesful they would be trusted with control of tenchi everyhere except Japan. Naive of you to assume people care about some old reprints.

I wouldn't mind that personally

They should use this opportunity to animate the American comics, they're actually pretty good. Hell let them adapt the manga, there's tons of good content there that never got animated in the first place.

Any new Tenchi Muyo stuff, even if it’s just a reprint of some American comics, is great news in my opinion. It’s less likely we’ll ever get a new OVA or Movie, so this is the next best thing.

They promised they would make new american tenchi content? Am I the only one that actually read the whole thing?

Petrea's voice is still beautiful. I recommend watching the kickstarter video to hear her voice.

I've only read some of the comics but from what I read it seemed fine. You have misgivings?

They hate Kajishima the OG creator btw

Yeah gee I wonder why someone would dislike the guy who side lined all the characters people care about so he could focus on a revolving door extended family tree and OHOHOHO space grannies. Kasjishima is a hack and everyone else who worked on a tenchi series did the job a thousand times better.

Eh they seem fine. Very americanized but much better than whatever Kajishima is doig right now.

Ryoko a cute

For me it's the Negishi continuity

I did not care about Tenchi's brothers or cousins. I just wanted Tenchi, which is why it was I did not like Tenchi Muyo GXP because I found Seina to be more annoying than Tenchi

I wonder how those nostalgic fans feel about the OVAs. Especially considering many of those fans seem to be women. I know nobody care about the Kajishima continuity except for massive coomers self-inserting as Tenchi and getting a harem end but still

You've been injected with NANOMACHINES. You are ten times stronger, faster, and flexible.

Pirate Episode

OH NO! We can't stop them!

Fuck that spin off and fuck everything after OVA2.

I like both the Kajishima & Negishi timelines. Yes including War on Geminar, yes including Masquerade, yes including Dual. I also liked everything else involving Tenchi, yes including Ai which was just a tourism ad.
And yes I did write my fictional stories that are pretty much just ripoffs of Tenchi mixed with my other interests.
So anything new Tenchi related is fine by me.

They might give Mihoshi a BLM shirt

You'd be lucky if you think that's all they'll do.

>I wonder how those nostalgic fans feel about the OVAs

Wonder no more. They hate it. That's why they are doing this in the first place to have their own american continuity.

We pretty much all agree Universe was the best continuity if we're talking Tenchi. Even if we're split on our feelings on the Ryo-Ohki timeline with majority leaning not liking the new OVAs because it's mostly just talking setting up things for shows that already aired.

i remember being 15 and saving Tenchi Muyo and DBZ porn to a floppy in the school library
Funny how back then the thought of getting caught didn't faze me one bit, I really had to work to get off back then.

Reminder that any lewd or porn art of Tenchi girls is likely canon in the Kajishima timeline because he has a fetish.

I wonder how those nostalgic fans feel about the OVAs.

At least insofar as OVA 1 and 2 very positively.

They made a kickstarter for a El Hazard sequel some years ago but failed to gain traction. Too bad because Jinnai is my hero

Jinnai.jpg - 522x479, 62.32K

they would be trusted with control of tenchi everyhere except Japan

Any reason AIC or anyone in the production committee can't just...re-establish their own presence in the west? Is the franchise in such dire straits that making a Harmony Gold-esque deal with some noname LLC is a good idea?

Foreign country
Different language
Scary

Pioneer isn't around anymore

A lot of us are shocked this happened too. But it's true. AIC has been shockinly bad at handling their franshises for years now. They litrally just gave their goldmine to some fans in america.

What's up with America's fascination with Tenchi Muyo?

It was an early harem for ancientfags back when you had to jump through hoops to watch anime/read manga. Nobody under the age of like 40 or 45 cares about Tenchi.

Lots of them are newfags and some oldfags are in their 30s

Nobody under the age of like 40 or 45 cares about Tenchi.

10 years off but ironically this. America has a nostalgia problem.

. America has a nostalgia problem.

Please elaborate.

Pioneer did a huge push back when to get into the mainstream America when the Toonami boom happened. They pretty much did identical marketing at the time for Americans as they did Japan.
Problem was America was just too big a country for the majority marketing they did for people to travel to see, aka local marketing. You can still see the remnants of their work in how much care went into the original releases of the DVDs for OVA & Universe. Pretty much everything was translated and localized, including the music and fucking blueprints of the house. Pioneer wanted it to be big but it didn't last in America because it wasn't shonen or shonen adjacent. There's at best 2-4 big fights in Tenchi OVA & Universe, the rest is small fights or cat fights. Meanwhile it's contemporaries DBZ was fights all the time with repeatable trendy moves. So while Tenchi did leave a lasting impression, it didn't sell toys which was the bigger deal at the time in America.

Sadly it'd unironically do better now if it had the same quality of the past, but we can't have nice things.

The only time I ever liked a Tenchi girl was Sakuya and everyone hates her/Tokyo. Then again I also thought that Universe was really fucking boring when it was airing.

Nobody under the age of like 40 or 45 cares about Tenchi.

That's because they've had nothing to latch on to. The last Tenchi thing that had more than 6 episodes was Geminar and that was a billion years ago.

Let's be honest, the Gen Z version of Tenchi that gets latched onto and talked about similarly will probably be Konosuba.

Pioneer wanted it to be big but it didn't last in America because it wasn't shonen or shonen adjacent.

You can argue nothing's really changed although harems (due to the Paco audience) and single waifu romcoms (Redditors) are more popular. The vast majority of the American anime/manga audience just uses anime as a replacement for superhero comics/action cartoons.

Mushoku Tensei for new harem AOTC

See: Demon Slayer

The only thing that's changed is availability methods, and it's only available AFTER the OVA boom in Japan where they threw money at anyone with an idea.

Nta but pretty much all modern American media since the beginning of the 2010s is based on some form of nostalgia, whether it be a shitty remake or even if it's something original it's usually based on something the creator grew up with. Even our politics is just 50s nostalgiafags against civil rights era nostalgiafags.

Video games haven't moved past 5th gen yet for example

I see, very informative. thanks anon. Yiu guys do have a point. This is pretty much just nostalgia.

when the Toonami boom happened

Well before that and outside America as well, I remember seeing tapes in Virgin Megastore here in Britbong way back.
Pioneer were incredible with international distribution/parity of their original IPs in the 90s. It's rare to see such earnest cross contamination like this now.
youtube.com/watch?v=xMG55_t5kGw

Also picrel which was a Japanese album of English dubbed songs that I have a lossless rip of if anyone wants it.

Please do

Even our politics is just 50s nostalgiafags against civil rights era nostalgiafags.

The 2020s is pretty much just a re-run of the 1970s only with a gay tech autist aesthetic instead of the cool bright earth tones/gritty decay one. But yeah, brand power is what sells nowadays which means it's safer to just use nostalgia since those are known quantities even if the result is almost universally shit (like the soulless Rumiko remakes).

Nta but pretty much all modern American media since the beginning of the 2010s

Its been that way much longer than that. A good chunk of American movies and media in the 90's were either based off a previous movie or some reboot of something from the 80's and 70's. Every decade goes through this nostalgia or romanticizing for the previous decade. The 90's was full of 80's and 70's nostalgia wank and the 80's was full of shows and movies romanticizing the 60's.

The difference back then though was the remakes and reboots had actual effort and didn't rely too much on CGI slop and their celebrities/actors were at their peak. The 2010's is when it became low effort

"oh that generation are adults now, better make movies based on the popular thing they liked when they were kids using now 60 and 70 year old actors"

"control"

they're just giving permission to license it
